Thinking on giving up and going civilian contractor
| back to top |
Posted 2 months ago 12yrs of service so far, but am so burnt out on this job that I want to give it up and go make me some money doing the Dyncorp/Blackwater gimmick. If I use the money wisely I can be bill free in a year and only have a small balance on the x42 (house.) If I am to go I will miss my kids immensely. If I am to go I could bump up against the wrong IED. If I am to go I can get some good life experince out of this. Decisions, decisions. |

| Posted 2 months ago Hey Wade. I have 11+ yrs in and I have decided to go with DynCorp and take a contract for Afghanistan. I am going to PAST in July. Mike Morgan is my recruiter and he could answer any questions you may have. As far as hitting a mine or anything like that I took the stand that the risks in Law Enforcement increase daily but at least this way i am making the money for the risk. I have a great wife and 2 wonderful children and I will miss them all but you get 52 days off a year and when the tour is over ill be able to spend a lot more time with them than I can know. If you want Mike’s # just let me know |

| Posted 2 months ago Wade, Alot of guys are doing this. Just had a E-6 military working dog handler friend with 16 years punch out and take a job with a private contractor making $135,000 in Afghanistan. have you also considered AEGIS? They pay their guys 200,000 pounds a year, but thats tax free. If its a US Corp then the first $90Kish is tax free. How long are your military deployments? For USAF Cops its 6 months, if you got short tours it might be worth deploying again and making some contacts at your deployed location, and talking to the guys out there working for them. Also, have you considered joining the reserves before going mil contractor route? That way you would keep your SGLI and family benefits, if your commander would let you reschedule your UTAs or let you go IRR you could still work towards military retirement while making tons of cash. I have not seen any of the contractors over here using MRAPs or M1116's, just armored suburbans that don't do as well after an IED impact.
Good luck |
