You mean as the Chaser/Arrester or the Chasee/Resistee? Just to clarify for some of our more scummy members who might be curious |

I remember BOTH :) Psychotics build castles in the air, Neurotics live in those castles, and Psychiatrists collect the rent. |

Yes. Great danger lies in the notion that we can reason with evil. |

| Posted 2 months ago My first footchase was while I was on FTO. He just shoplifted from a store and I stopped him on foot. He took off and we ran for more than a 1000 ft at a full sprint. He went around the corner where he was witnessed hiding the items he stole in some bushes and gave up on the otherside. My third footchase was shortly after getting cut lose from FTO. He took off running from me while I was investigating a disturbance call. He jump a fence, I went through the gate. He jump another fence. By the time he was recovering from jumping down I was hitting the fence to jump it ( no gate this time). I chased him into his house and into the back bedroom where he laid down on the bed. After a short struggle I got him him cuffed and escorted him outside. He jerked away from and rammed himself into me. I escorted him to the ground and sat on him until my back up arrived. He plead guilty to felony obstruction and public drunkenness |

| Posted 2 months ago I was a rookie foot patrolman in DC. I was directing traffic at the colliseum and saw some boys waving people into an alley with flashlights. A while later a guy comes to me all bloodied. He said those kids parked him in the alley, there was no more room so they robbed him! I gave footchase for about six city blocks. I hadn't a clue where I was. Finally I knocked on a door, asked a nice lady if I could use her phone, asked her the address where she lived and watied for a cruiser to come and get me. Yes, the perp got away cold. He had a city block head start on me. Oh to be 21 again. Yes, at one point I drew down on him. Back then we did shoot at fleeing felons. Didnt have to see a gun. Very glad traffic got in the way |

| Posted 2 months ago I remember my LAST foot chase! One concussion, several stitches, a torn rotator cuff and four days in a hospital will do that to you! |

| Posted 2 months ago Now that one sticks out in my mind. He hit a Trooper out of his car on a highway and kept going I chased him another mile in the car then he bailed on foot I caught up with him and we fought for 15 minutes before help got there. I was off duty and had no tools. That was my first lesson in carrying off duty. PAIN IS WEAKNESS LEAVING THE BODY! |

| Posted 2 months ago My supervisor caught a couple of guys snorting cocaine on a back road. I was the cover officer who arrived just as the Sergeant went to cuff one of the guys. The guy took off, running up hill with Sarge behind him. Being a rookie, I didn't realize that it would be more prudent to pursue uphill in the car then on foot, but live and learn. I ran after the Sarge as another unit arrived and took custody of the second suspect. I passed my supervisor and caught up to the bad guy who was introduced to the ground with the 'minimal amount of force necessary'. Most hair-raising chase: Capital murderer who had escaped from our detectives the night before during an interview. Observed this guy walking down a bar ditch the next morning close to our substation. Another unit and I pulled up and the chase was on. Pursued him through the woods for several hundred yards before breaking into a clearing, at which time I told him to either stop or he would be shot. He complied and was 'figure foured'. The other officer that was with me...wasn't with me. He later told me that he was 'paralleling the pursuit ' up on the road. He was still standing by his car when I brought the guy out of the woods. Great danger lies in the notion that we can reason with evil. |

| Posted 2 months ago I remember one particular case when my wife and I were riding along in my cruiser (personal patrol car) and I got behind a stolen car. I followed the car which refused to pull over. It was not a fast chase. I would have had to put my wife out of the car if it had been. The car finally pulled over. The driver was about 16 and a regular. He got out and began running around the car with me in hot pursuit. We went around about four times before I finally caught him. He later said he could see I was mad and figured I would kick his butt! My wife couldn't stop laughing. |
