Can I still become an officer?

Posted about 1 month ago I have no prior offences and my record is completely clean, however in the questioning before the polygraph test I was asked if I had smoked marijuana. I admitted to doing it only 2 times in my life. Once in late 2005 and again in November 2007. 6 months ago. Am I hopeless for the job? Is there a time frame between the last time you smoked and the application process because the inspector mentioned he wasn't sure and that he'd call me later. I didn't get to the actual lie detector test though. Could you tell me if I still have a chance the time frame if you know please. Thank you |

| Posted about 1 month ago I can only speak for how it was when I was working back after all the Viet Nam soldiers came home. Most of them had tried Mary and they allowed them to be hired if their poly showed that they only used it in Nam and nothing else. Also if you passed giving the answer twice in your life, I would guess that you still stand a chance. A lot depends upon the times. IE: are they now getting plenty of recruits who never touched any drugs at all? |

IF you want a serious answer....fill out your profile with a little bit of into that could be helpful and try going to the introduction threat and using it. Y'all give him a break at least he didn't start another thread about this. First y'all need to post your introductions in the Introduction Forum. After that do a search for this. It has been asked a hundred times over. ygonzalez if it has been two years I would say you are okay. As asked if they have a bunch of applicants who have a clean history you will be out. But it definitely beats smoking it just six months ago. Smoking weed isn't the worse thing in the world but it still is a drug and illegal. So keep you head straight and your nose clean until you are interviewed and hired. |

| Posted about 1 month ago Depends on the department. Some polygraph, some don't. Either way you need to be honest and it sounds like you were. If you interview with a smaller department that doesn't polygraph you will still be asked on paper if you have ever done drugs and depending on how far you get you will be drug tested so it's up to you whether or not to be honest. Don't get caght in a lie cause that will follow you if and when you interview somewhere else. If it's only been 6 months since you last smoked and you interviewed with me I wouldn't hire you. Mary Jane may not be that big of a deal to most but it's still an illegal drug and says a lot about someone's credibility.........My 2 cents. People ask the difference between a leader and a boss. Seriously, I would do some homework on the various agencies in your area. Almost always there is a pecking order among the agencies. The top of the line should not be your first pick probably. However there would most likely be some agency in your area that might be willing to overlook your transgression. My advice is to take that job, become certified, put in enough time to show your next employer that you now know how to say "Just say NO" and then look for a way to move to the job that you want the most. |

| Posted about 1 month ago Depends on the Dept and how many applicants they have etc. The fact that you were honest at least helps. If you lie, it's all over and word will spread and no other Dept will touch you either if you get caught, and you will, lying. |
