| Posted 2 months ago My guess is system maintenance.... Your State node should have notified all departments before that occured. "Don't tell people how to do things, tell them what to do and let them surprise you with their results." - George S. Patton |

| Posted 2 months ago ncic is down because of all of the departments that abuse it. ncic is a national database, not just a surrounding state data base. most departments put people into ncic and will only extradite for surrounding states, which defeats the purose of ncic. if your department is willing to put someone into ncic, then the should be willing to come and get the person. |

Sure, its automated but like most computer databases, it needs to be reorganized (geek term...) periodically. They have to "dump" the "garbage", so to speak. Usually this doesn't take very long. I agree its a pain, but necessary to maintain the integrity of the files. "Don't tell people how to do things, tell them what to do and let them surprise you with their results." - George S. Patton |

| Posted 2 months ago I have not worked since 1984 and nothing has changed I guess. We use to get a notification that NCIC was going down for maintenance shortly after 2359 hrs on Sunday night. It would not come back up till around 0630 hrs.. Back then ALL WARRANTS we listed and that would lead to all kinds of problems. You have a misdemeanor warrant from the East Coast and and arrest Pending Qualification from a West Coast dept. If no rendition, no arrest , and warrant was pulled. I stopped a guy for a headlight out . He was from Florida , his License and Registration info was good but as usual my sixth sense told me (something wrong with this guy). Defective equipment was not an arrestable offence, so I wrote the citation and sent him on his way. Just as I was going off duty at 0700 , the Phones (all four) lit up like a Christmas tree. NCIC was now in service and the subject I had was wanted by Florida and the F.B.I. for Murder. (the only good thing was that he was arrested in New Hampshire due to the info on the car and plate , after NCIC came back up). Lucky for me not getting hurt on this one , and I am sure there are thousands of this same scenario that have been repeated over the years. THEY NEED A REDUNDANCY SYSTEM WHEN THE PRIMARY IS DOWN. Glory earned on the field of battle , can never be taken away , you take it with you to the grave. Quote by General George Armstrong Custer |

| Posted 2 months ago You agency TAC should get a msg from your DCI trainer about a week before that the system will be down. I have a great trainer for our district who always keeps us informed. Check with your TAC and see if they are getting msg's in advance and they are just not passing the information along. |

| Posted 2 months ago NCIC is always down here on Sundays too.....at least until the late morning/early afternoon. We are linked to NCIC through our KS sign on system, so both of those are down at the time. It's annoying...but you can still run local wants/warrants/status. I just hate that a "bad guy" might be getting away because we don't have full access....... |

| Posted 2 months ago our entire system( NCIC and Our State system) goes down here on sunday morning for weekly updates. We get a message about 5 minutes before it goes down and it is usually down for about an hour or so. |

| Posted 2 months ago Here NCIC and III both go down from about 0200(ish) to about 0600(ish) on Sundays, about two times a month. RILETS is always down from about 0600-0630 every am, at least it seems that way |

| Posted 2 months ago As long as FCIC is up I don't really care about NCIC cause when you get a hit from another state it always says extradition surrounding states only or some other BS, so I got to where I don't even have dispatch confirm it anymore. |

| Posted 2 months ago I dont think I have ever seen one that said anything but surrounding states only LuLusgt
Good news? RI is so small almost all of New England will extradite from here =0) |

We just extradited one from Houston, Texas back to Lake City, Fl. I just met two Deputies from Michigan that drove down from Michigan in a Dodge Charger to pick-up one from Jacksonville, Fl. So it does happen occasionally. |

| Posted 2 months ago lol...I am glad I am not the only one who gets a bit upset when NCIC is ALWAYS down on the weekends. You'd think they could save system maintenance until a less active day like Tuesday or something. |

| Posted 2 months ago They really should have it ironed out so it isn't down as long as it is. We can usually still check local records for local warants but that doesn't help in a City with as many tourists as we have. I guess if you did a quick FI on all traffic stops when NCIC was down you'd at least catch up to a decent Felony Warant candidate now and then -after the fact. I'm pretty sure you can still enter their info and send it anyway because I get "late hits" all the time... sometimes days later. Most of the time I find out for myself that NCIC is down from a prompt on the screen after I've sent the request out. Either the system retains the request and processes it later or the late hits are from data entered after the stop... I've never really paid enough attention to figure that out. Just make sure you can get on the stand and say you do it (the FI's) for everyone... not just the ones that "look like" they might have a want/warant. People almost always have a piece of mail with a current address in their car around here... with dates stamped on them from the Postmaster. |

| Posted 2 months ago Nothin but a little good old fashioned system maintenance baby. I don't know what it is they do but that's what happens here in Alabama. I must say that it's not as frequent or as long anymore though. We have in house access to county tag files though so if it's a Montgomery County tag we can at least check registration. |
