Posted about 1 month ago I've only been a member for one day, and I've already breached forum etiquette by not introducing myself earlier. Well, here goes. My name is Matt and I've been in law enforcement/corrections for the past fifteen years or so. I've had the good fortune of working in smaller departments so that has afforded me the opportunities to work in various areas; patrol, SWAT, detectives, supervisor...etc. I currently work for the State of Kansas as a Police Officer and although my current position really doesn't offer up much in the way of actual police work, I am able to keep up on my training and that is helping me while I make my final transition to a department where I will retire from. In any event, I am prior military. Active duty Navy, and also National Guard. I hope to sign back up in the near future, and give it another whirl. Looking forward to talking with you all. |

| Posted about 1 month ago Welcome to Police Link and your service to our country. It must be nice to be blessed with the combination of a total lack of forethought and the inability to articulate it correctly. |

A police officer that doesn't do much in the way of actual police work. So what exactly is it that you do? Or do you have to kill me if you tell me? Extremism in the defense of liberty is no vice. Moderation in the pursuit of justice is no virtue. -Senator Barry Goldwater |

I was wondering the same thing. Also what do you mean you will be transitioning to a department that you will retire from? Does that mean you are quitting your current job and applying to another dept? Every time you 'start over' in another Department you are still called a rookie. That would get bothersome after a bit I would think. Enquiring minds want to know. LOL |

| Posted about 1 month ago LOL....I would be glad to answer all of those "inquiring minds". I worked as a patrol officer, shift supervisor, detective, and SWAT team leader for the better part of six years. Things were going well until the talk of budget cuts became a certainty instead of just an idea. I was able to read the tea leaves and decided to find myself a lifeboat....so to speak. I am now a police officer for a small DOD facility, so needless to say, the times that I am called to respond to domestics, burglaries, and the such are pretty much few and far between. I also came to this job while in the middle of a divorce, so the lack of additional stress was much needed. Now that all of that has passed, I am trying to decide exactly where I want to go for the rest of my career. I'm painfully aware of the pitfalls of starting over somewhere else, but that's okay. I have seven years on the street and an additional seven years working in corrections, but I am of the mind set, that I can always learn more and improve on the way I do things. So, my time is now spent more in the counter-terrorism aspect of law enforcement, and not so much on the calls for service. I hope that answers some of those "burning" questions....and no, I won't have to kill you now...LOL. |
