Posted 2 months ago I am happy for you guys because New York City had experienced the lowest crime rate in years. The politicians tend to take the credit but we all know it's the men and women in blue. Even with this award, you guys are still underpaid and still have to now negotiate for another contract. Bloomberg, as a lame duck billionair could care less in my humble opinion, because he doesn't have a clue as to what being a cop is all about. Hope you guys get every penny you rightfully deserve.

| Posted 2 months ago NYC PBA Press Release: http://www.nycpba.org/releases/pr080519-contract.html 9.7%% (compounded) raise along with: Tour reschedules from 15 up to 20 Shooting range training (unpaid) on an RDO Loss of 10 vacation days a year, for first 5 years (total: 50 days) No raise for 18 months for new hires, up from 12 months DO THE MATH......Overall package works out to about a 7% raise with the givebacks, slightly higher than the 6.5% Mayor Bloomberg wanted originally (with no givebacks), looks like the city wins again.

Posted 2 months ago What a joke....the rookies get a raise to 36,000, which amounts to nothing trying to live in NYC. On top of that they have to lose 10 of their 20 vacation days and have to use their own time to travel to the range to qualify with their weapon! NYPD is a great Dept, but their terrible pay and decreasing benefits are making it harder and harder for them to recruit decent candidates.

Yea... this is basically a “get the public off the mayor’s back” smoke screen… people are going to see the “$10k raise” on the surface and start with the congratulations… it even happened on here looking at the first comments because at FIRST glance it looks like a victory to the PD. But then when you actually look at it you see that it’s really more of a shot to the nuts. and 90% of the public probably don’t know what give backs are so they’ll think this is a settled issue “ok they got their raise so I can stop voicing my support for the PD”

"Can you count suckers? I say the future is ours, if you can count." That's a famous quote from the 1979 movie,"The Warriors." I have to ask the same question. And it's the same question I asked when I worked for the NYPD. Put another way, since you need at the very least a high-school diploma -and at one time, some college- to wear the badge, how is it that most of us don't understand simple math? When you work in any job, and your employer increases your salary but does not increase your workload or your responsibilities, then that is a raise. When you are given more money to do more work, depending upon the circumstances that may or may not be considered career advancement. But, when your salary increases, and you give up certain benefits -such as vacation time, sick time, days off, etc...- and you are given extra days to work in addition to the time that they take away from you, not only is it not a raise - it's a decrease in salary. Sure; eventually, when you retire, your pension will be somewhat bigger because you will have made more money over the years. And, true - when you retire, you no longer have to worry about chart days, banging in to go to the beach, or working details. (Unless, of course, like most of us retirees, you have to work after 'retirement'. but, what about the twenty years that you put in? What about all of the missed birthdays, holidays, and anniversaries? What about all of the LOD injuries suffered because some low-life decided that he had the right to rape a child but you had no right to arrest him, and therefore he fights you? What about all of the unfair indictments of cops doing their job because the Mayor folds to the pressure of special interest groups? A cop fights for his life and the perp is killed, and then the mayor pays for the perp funeral- (David Dinkins). Three cops defend themselves against known thugs and even after they are acquitted in Supreme Court, they still have to fight to keep their jobs- (Mike Bloomberg). And, for the record, I am multi ethnic. So unlike most cops, I am not afraid to be called a racist because I know it ain’t so! As a person, I never much cared for Rudy. As a mayor, and the person who ran NYC, he was untouchable and had no equal. He didn't want to pay us and I think that was reprehensible. But, he never threw us under the bus until the investigation was complete, and it was determined that we deserved to be thrown under the bus. This is a sad, tired, song... but, the lyrics haven't changed. When are we going to wake up and say, "No More!”? When we signed on to do the job, we knew that we would have to cut our hair; work different tours; stand in the rain; go to friends’ funerals. It's part of the job. But, it's not part of the job to be treated with disrespect by co-workers, supervisors and the entire administration. Mike Bloomberg, I read that you are a success do to your own making, and regardless of what I personally think of you, your success is impressive and commendable. But as the mayor of what use to be the greatest city in the world, and home of what use to be the best police department, you are a disgrace. I never thought that I would see the day that a man with your kind of stature would ever bow down to the likes of Al Sharpton. I never thought that I would ever see another mayor whom cared for cops the same way that David Dinkins cared for cops.
But- I am retired from the NYPD and none of that stuff physically affects me any longer. I just think that it’s a damn shame that no one seems to care. At least no one who is in a position to change things.

Posted 28 days ago And, I forgot to add: What genius determined that it was a good idea to have cops, who are required to carry weapons, qualify on their day off? And how does the PBA, SBA, DEA, etc., justify accepting that into the contract? RC

Posted 28 days ago Having Officers requal on their RDO's, seems like they want you to do something that is job related on your day off? Maybe I am wrong, but I do not think so, that this violates Fair Labor Standards. Secondly; has anyone ever heard of "Range Related Accidents," does this mean if you are injured at the range, you are on your own?
