I got some of the perfect pushups like on TV. I was amazed with the results. After using them at home for about 1 month my bench went up 40 pounds and also curls weight went up. Anyone else used these?

I've been using the Perfect Push-up system, for almost a year, now. If you want to turn up the heat, check out www.stewsmith.com for a free workout pryamid. He also has an e-book called "The Perfect Push-up Bible." I have it and it has killer workout routines.

I decided to get a set around the first of the year. They work just as advertised. I even recommended them to a buddy at work and a fireman that I have known for years. Both have told me that they have seen great results just like I have.

I've always liked the concept of push ups or pull ups.  (Weight assisted pull ups for me.)  You work so many muscles at once, it gets your  work out done faster.  I usually hate working out upper body because you have to do 3 different excercises for each part.  Push ups/pull ups lets you get it all over with faster.  But maybe that only works for women.  I'm not looking to bulk up like some of you guys.

OK.....I AM A FEMALE AND I JUST FINISHED THE POLICE ACADEMY IN MARCH OF THIS YEAR AND THE HARDEST THING FOR ME WAS AND HAS ALWAYS BEEN PUSH UPS.  IF I BUY THE PERFECT PUSH UP......DOES ANYONE THINK THEY WILL HELP ME?? I STRUGGLE WITH UPPER BODY STRENGTH.  MOST OF THE STRUGGLE IS MENTAL, I KNOW...BUT STILL......HAVE BEEN REALLY SKEPTICAL ABOUT PURCHASING THE PERFECT PUSH UP!!!

Holly, I've trained a number of female (and male) officers over a long career.  A lot of men have challenges with push-ups too.  The only thing that "perfect push-up" does for you is add the ability to supinate (twist) your hands to flex the pectoral muscle and add an aspect of angle to the affected muscle.  That supination creates the "V-cut" between the pectorals.  Yep, it's impressive on both the male and female physique and it's great to have, but not the essential function of the push-up.

You've finished the academy; CONGRATULATIONS!!!  Now stay on the high road and do NOT let yourself say that you're done with training upper-body strength.  There are two things you GOTTA be able to do in our business and that is run - at least a good 100yd sprint and then have upper-body strength to do something with the bad guy when you catch him.  What the heck, you also have to be able to haul your partner out of a bad situation if he/she is hurt, bring that baby up from a hole in the ground to the arms of the distraught parents or help hold a line while some other emergency service provider is hanging on for dear life at the other end of it.

Don't worry about frills at first.  Do push-ups even though you hate every one of them.  When your body responds with new strength, gut out one or two more.  When you can do 50 or 75 without burning too badly, put a block under your feet or change the placement of your hands (wider base or narrower base).  Angle of attack on the exercise is EVERYTHING!

I'm always proud of someone who has overcome a personal challenge in preparing to be a peace officer.  Sounds like you've done just that.  That makes this old cop gladly put aside ancient thinking and proudly call you my sister... not to be shielded (as you once would have been) but to stand beside your partner and be equal if not superior by choice, by intention, by personal effort.  It may sound a bit trite but... "you GO girl!!!"

They're available at your local Wal-Mart if you want them a bit faster and without paying for shipping.

OK, you have me intrigued... I'm still pretty much convinced that they are a contrivance for the advanced athlete rather than those struggling with the first few push-ups or upper-body strength issues though.

As an experiment I'm going to pick up a pair today and I'll use them five days a week for one month to max reps.  I'll record progress in:

  • reps,

  • inches around chest and,

  • definition are...

If anybody's interested I'll post it as a new thread starting Monday, July 5 running through Sunday,  August 3.  (Awwww jeeze, what am I getting myself into here???

Speaking of push ups...one of the recruits on my department got bounced out of the academy 2 days before graduation.  He could only do 28 push ups and he needed 30 to pass.  Pretty brutal, huh?

Terry, let me save you the trouble and the money. The Perfect Pushup System is NOT in any way, shape or form for the novice; read: weak person.

A person with weak upper body strength will have a mucH harder time performing a "PERFECT, PROPER PUSHUP" usig this tool, rather then just working on pushups with the different beginner styles.

Also, GREAT POST IN RELATION TO THE FEMALE LEO... IT WAS PERFECT. BRAVO!

July 5th is today, but it's Saturday.  I'm confused.  Anyway, I just bought the push up things at Target today.  I'm going to start tonight.     They are still in the box as I type.  I'll go try them and see what I think.

I don't need a machine to help me do a push up and we don't need cheap plugs for products on here either. People are already making money off of us.

I don't need a machine to do push ups either, but I wanted to buy them because of what it said about taking stress off the joints.  I just tried them now and have to agree my wrists/hands didn't feel like they were under pressure.  There is nothing wrong with this thread.  The original poster isn't a rep for the company.

Thank you for your insight, I'll stick to my opinion. Everyone wants to share there opinion but wants to contradict someone elses when it doesn't coincide with theirs.

Okay, I think I know what you are talking about.  It was the former cop guy trying to drum up sales for his supplement store.  I remember that.
