I think we all have dreams when we are younger, but we make decisions as best we can with the information and opportunities afforded to us at that time. Would I have preferred a different course in life? Maybe, but I truly feel this is what I was called to do, my vocation and my mission in life. "Show class, have pride, and display character. If you do, winning takes care of itself." - Coach Paul "Bear" Bryant "America was not built on fear." "America was built on courage, imagination and an unbeatable determination to do the job at hand. " - President Harry S. Truman |

I feel the same way. I retired, moved to another state, and within a year I was back on the job. I often thought about other professions but this has been the job for me. |

Posted 2 months ago To not follow the same path I had would be to infer regret. I have no regrets in my chosen profession or career. Having lived more years than I have left on this earth (other than never having had the chance to boink Cher) I'm very content. Beyond fatigue lies compensatory hypertrophy

Posted 2 months ago Without a doubt. I wanted to be a cop for as long as I can remember. I was torn at first as to which service I wanted to work for, until I did a co-op in high school with our provincial service and figured out I would prefer the daily workings of the local regional force. I'm not cut out for a normal job, that I know. I couldn't be a daily desk jockey, it would drive me to drink. I love the variety of being a cop, never knowing from day to day what I will deal with, who I will meet, or what I may get into. Right now I'm on light duties, trapped in the station at a desk doing data entry, and it's driving me NUTS. No matter what, I am and will always be a cop. If you don't stand behind our troops, feel free to stand in front of them.

Same here. When I got done with MP Service, I thought I'd try something else. Just over a year and I was going nuts and had to get back into the field. When it is in your blood, it's in your blood. No need to deny it. |

Posted 2 months ago No doubt about it! I'm police officer and a pastor and I wouldn't have it any other way. I have two jobs (callings) that I absolutely love. 2 Cor. 5:17 "Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; old things have passed away; behold all things have become new."

Posted 2 months ago Absolutly! Without a doubt. Some people get into law enforcement for a variety of reasons. If you get into this line of work for the right reasons... you'll never work a day in your life! Ok that may not be absolutely true with this line of work... but you will really like what you do and get some satisfaction out of a job well done.

Posted 2 months ago No regrets, Id gladly do it over and over. 2 Things I wanted to do when I grew up: Be a soldier and be a cop. Im blessed because Ive done both (the fireman/emt thing is a bonus) and I thank God everyday for allowing me to serve in that capacity.

Posted 2 months ago Being a LEO is honesly the best decision I have made. I have thought about entering professions that pay better, but being a cop is the best job I can imagine I am a former Marine, and the commeraderie among officers in my department is very similar. I know not all departments are as close as we are. I, like many officers, am an adrenalin junky, and this definately caters to my needs there. I enjoy getting to help people through their problems. I think the most rewarding part of the job is getting to catch people who have victimized others. Something we felt very proud of whe I was in the Marines, is that people sleep well at night knowing there are people in the world who are willing to do what is necassary to protect them.

Posted 2 months ago Absolutely.....unless I hit the mega-millions lottery then I would be laying on a beach somewhere drinking frozen banana drinks and scratching myself all day without a care in the world :-) Police work- the greatest show on earth and my team always wins!!!

Posted 2 months ago The only way that I wouldnt be on the job is if I hit the lotto and could sit on my butt and not do a thing. This is what I always wanted to do and I left a job that was not in law enforcement but paid a lot more. This job is what I was put on this planet to do.

Posted 2 months ago These topics are getting easier to answer. NO! I wouldn't give it a second thought. "Don't tell people how to do things, tell them what to do and let them surprise you with their results." - George S. Patton

Posted 2 months ago Without a doubt! Even knowing that I would end up disabled and in pain for life I would certainly do it all over again. I know in my heart that there are a number of people still alive simply because of my actions as a police officer. I contributed quite a bit to the history of mankind be it ever so small overall, it is huge to some and those it effects. Yes it was well worth it. I even got to live more than most people ever have or will in ten lifetimes.

Posted 2 months ago Absolutely.....there are mostly good days and some bad, but I still look forward to coming to work 99% of the time. What other job can you say that!! Every now and then when that person comes to you and thanks you for something you did for them, that makes it all worth it.

Posted 2 months ago Just as a few already said: there is no other job like it. Excitement is just around the corner. chasing, fighting, and being on the right side of the law when doing it. If you have a sense of wanting to serve and do the right thing and content to be a blue collar worker for a long time, then its the right career. Without dedication, listening to everyone's troubles, and being their whipping boy will soon grow old. Twenty years can be a long long time. I remember two of my academy classmates that quit a few years into the job. They both opened gas stations. I often wonder how many oil changes they had to do before they could retire.

Posted 2 months ago I've enjoyed every experience of being on the job including helping people, catching bad guys, and everyone I've me. I love the brotherhood, I don;t think I'd change anything except I wish I made more money...

Posted 2 months ago I started as a Reserve with the Morehouse Parish Sheriff's Office in 1987. Went to work full time for the SO in 1988. I've worked Dispatch, Jail, Transportation, Patrol, CID, Undercover Narcotics, been a Marshal of a small town that the SO had a contract with. 11 years ago went to State Law Enforcement. I never thought I'd make this much money in LE. The money doesn't matter...........yep, I'm one of those who still think I can make a difference.............I love my job and look forward to going to work every day. I do look forward to retirement which can be as soon as about 3 1/2 years if I want to. What other job can you have where you can basically drive as fast as you want, legally kick someone's ass, then put them in jail................yeehaw

Posted 2 months ago This is my second career. I sold oil field equipment for 18 years and then back in 1986 there was no business. I went broke. My friend the Sheriff of Midland County gave me a job making $1450.00 a month booking in prisoners. This was not as good as selling equipment but when you have nothing coming in this is great. I worked in the jail as a jailor/deputy. Loved the job because there was never anything dull going on. I left the jail and went to work for Texas Tech University in 1997. Started at the Health Sceince Police Department then merged to the campus to have only one department. During the first year I made Sergeant. I really sucked as a supervisor. Gave the stripes back and became a patrolman did a lot better job. So if I had to do it all over again I would still take what I am doing now. I love working with the students and staff it's great. I really like the students alot better that inmates.
