What kind of support does your community give it's officers?

Posted 6 months ago I'm curious. All comments are welcome. |

| Posted 6 months ago Ours is pretty favorable. I still have kids and adults alike smile and wave at me as I drive by. However, you can also still see certain people and crowds that just frown as we drive by.
It's mixed, but if I had to guess based SOLEY upon my OWN contacts with the public, and I would say that about 70% are favorable to our rather high presence. |

| Posted 6 months ago I believe the community, by and large, support us very well. Depending of course if they are the one being contacted in an enforcement role. You know how that goes, catch all the reckless drivers, except for me type of thing. The media on the other hand, they can be a bit fickle. Sometimes you're up, sometime not.
Beyond fatigue lies compensatory hypertrophy |

| Posted 6 months ago The community I work in is VERY culturally diverse, and for some reason everyone thinks ALL contact with police is a bad thing. When we show up at their houses they get upset because their neighbours will see the cruisers in the driveways. I have a hard time caring about that kind of stuff when THEY called US for help. I know our call takers frequently get asked if they can send unmarked cruisers...ya good luck with that. The older generations tend to be better, and I think this is pretty common in most communities. They wave and smile and bring their grandkids to talk to us. It's the generation of THEIR kids who seem to have trouble with police...mostly because a lot of their parents were immigrants and gave their kids EVERYTHING, because they had NOTHING, and the outcome of that is a self important, indignant, spoiled, lazy bunch of breeders who do nothing but whine and complain ("My neighbour's cat barfed on my lawn") and expect everyone else to do everything for them. I'm HOPING the increasing amount of work we are putting into putting officers in our schools will help this up and coming generation be a bit more police friendly and understanding of our jobs and the fact that we are there to protect them, not PANDER to them. I'm cranky...can you tell :D If you don't stand behind our troops, feel free to stand in front of them. |

| Posted 6 months ago I support the police officers in our community 100%. I know, without a doubt, that if I ever needed them for anything they would be there. They make our school and our community a better place and me a better person. |

| Posted 6 months ago I would have to say 10% for support and 90% against us. Our town has seen drastic changes over the last 10 or so years. People are moving in from areas where they were used to doing things our town has ordinances for or flat out refuse to cooperate with anything we may be involved in. God forbid you be proud of where you live and attempt to make it a great place to raise your children. It is easier to let a dying dog lie. |

| Posted 6 months ago One time my husband was going through the drive through and when he got to the window to pay, he was told that the person that had been in front of him in line had paid for his food.
That was a very small, very simple gesture. But it sure was a nice one.

| Posted 6 months ago Well it depends on the officer. Any officer doing his job the way it should be done is frowned upon, looked down upon, and basically given a tough row to hoe. Not everyone perceives this to be a bad thing but in a small "Good Ole Boy " community it sure makes things hard. A city council full of the "Good Ole Boys" , a city judge "Good Ole Boy club president " , well you get the picture. |

| Posted 6 months ago Here it's actually pretty good most of the time... prob 70-30 for us. Of course it's the 30% that we hear about most of the time. Even so we get alot of folks that take the time to say "thanks for what you do" when we're out and about. Kind of embarrasing sometimes but it's still nice. They told (us) to open up the Embassy, or "we'll blow you away." And then they looked up and saw the Marines on the roof with these really big guns, and they said in Somali, "Igaralli ahow," which means "Excuse me, I didn't mean it, my mistake".

| Posted 6 months ago Most of our community are just athletic supporters Pain is weakness leaving the body. Obstacles are what we see when we take our eyes off the goal. |

| Posted 6 months ago Working midnights the only people I come across are people who probably should not be out, so the only community I see tends to be the unsupportive kind..... "I don't know the key to success, but the key to failure is trying to please everybody. " |

| Posted 6 months ago I would say that 99.9% of are community supports us 100% and try to give us what we need with in the budget of course. |

| Posted 6 months ago At my old PD the reaction was so-so to us. We we're the necessary evil that they must have but didn't really want or notice. But they were sure damn glad we were there when someone was breaking into their houses in the middle of the night. When I transferred a year ago to my new PD it is like a whole different world. There are some that frown upon us a whole due to personal reasons like taxes but the vast majority are very pro police department. Several years ago when new commissioners took over, for the one and only time they were lucky enough to get elected, they attempted to merge the PD with the neighboring town and eliminate the department all together. The people of the town came forward and stood together against the merger which was eventually dropped but if it weren't for the people of the town standing together with and for the department, it would no longer be there and I would still be stuck in my former department. Police work- the greatest show on earth and my team always wins!!!

| Posted 6 months ago Our community is friendly for the most part. People will wave as we drive by and say hello as we do building checks. Majority support us, which is a good thing, so we can't complain. |

I'm sorry. Sadly many people that way. Here, we mostly hold our police in high regard and support them, but still there are those who have had run ins and are not happy campers that hold a grudge for being caught. Not like it's their fault or anything :) |

| Posted 6 months ago Generally the "older" generation is more supportive. The younger punks like to file civ. complaints more and more frequently thinking that will get you tossed from the job. All a civ. complaint really does in matters of what they percieve to be "too much" use of force, or unfair tickets is give the pecker woods in IA a chance to keep their jobs, and make them feel like their doing their jobs by being rats to their fellow officers. I'm certainly glad you know the Chief of Police Sir!! At least you know somebody that can post your bail!!!! |
