I'am currently writing a paper on maijuana. The effects, the reason why people to do. But also the pro's and con's of legalizing it. Really not finding any good information just wondering if anyone has ever done a paper on this and found some great websites or books any feedback would be great thank you so much!

Watch the History Channel. There are several shows that come on dealing with drugs, gangs, crime, etc.

Have you thought of just interviewing people randomly and asking those questions. I wouldn't rely on just this info but it may add a personal touch to your paper.

There should be lots of info out there on this. You just have to go to the library and look for what you need.

You can find out information on Marijuana at the NIDA (National Institute for Drug  Abuse) web site http://www.drugabuse.gov/MarijBroch/MarijParentsN.html.  You can also find out information on stats from the DEA, as well as other enforcement agencies.

If you receive someones personal opinion on marijuana and they have done it, it is fact! Isn't your paper on "why people use marijuana?"

Check out this website.   http://www.whitehousedrugpolicy.gov/drugfact/index.html

From reading the information in it, you will find that Medical Marijuana is B.S.

There is actually a pill which contains only the THC from Mariuana. The pill is sufficent for those docs who feel they have to prescribe marijuana to certain patience.

The Office of National Drug Control Policy has great information and links to information. Go check, check, check it out

I's say rent a chopper and make a low flight over BOGATA...after your chopper is shot down by the cartel and you are tortured and eventually turned over to the currupt authorities, and when and if you make it back, you'd have enough first hand information to write a paper and maybe get an "A"......GOOD LUCK.

There are many theoretical explanations for why people use marijuana. Our Criminal Justice System continues to attempt to control the unregulated use of marijuana. I believe that as our American society continues to age, the generation gap narrows. With the increase in baby boomers comes a change in the public’s perception on whether marijuana use really is so bad. Therefore it is ideological consensus that will determine whether or not the legalization of this controlled substance will happen. More importantly is political ideology and to what action lawmakers will take to regulate marijuana use.

Although there are five major theoretical perspectives, it is the interactionist paradigm that should be considered to better understand why marijuana use continues to be labeled as a criminal act. Is the sole act of smoking marijuana deviant, thereby compelling the criminalization of it, or is it the reaction by a group which chooses to label the act as criminal? Brown (2007) writes that “Labeling Theory is associated with an earlier concept known as symbolic interactionism. Labeling theorists emphasize individual levels of behavior and are more concerned about the effects of the reaction of society to the individual.” (p. 69). Perhaps a more important inquiry is whether or not a specific occurrence, which involves the smoking of pot, creates any victims. Regardless what perspective one may have on whether to legalize or to regulate marijuana use, society will continue to be the victims of the smoker. Cigarettes are no different and the health risks associated with both, affect all Americans either directly or indirectly in a negative way.

Does anyone else agree/disagree that it would have already been legalized if the G men had a way to control and tax it?

Have you tried reading HIGH TIMES.  There are many individuals who write for HIGH TIMES who have websites you could contact them to get the Pro side.  You could also speak with a chemist about the actual areas of the brain and how that the THC affects the brain.

Very interesting. I would certainly agree with the assessment of ideological consensus and how it's relative to the baby boomers. Of which I am one. Speaking exclusively of marijuana and similar to the days of prohibition, the competition for distribution, territory battles etc creates the victims rather than personal use of marijuana. In my experience, violence is more associated crack cocaine and meth.  A case in point, Tuesday, June 24th, an eradication team in Tennessee discovered a marijuana growing operation consisting of 350,000 (three hundred fifty thousand) plants, valued in excess of 700 million dollars. One has to wonder if it wouldn't have been better to collect the taxes rather than expend an inordinate amount of money for detection and removal.

Truly an interesting problem.

in regards to it being legalized, it has many positive attributes, at least more than alcohol, however if there wasn't so much money involved with it for our government they would legalize it, they just make more money with it not being legal.

what kekoa said is pretty much true, however if it were legal the government may lose money but overall the american people will be paying billions of less tax dollars than they currently are to pay for the arrests and prosecutions of the people charged with marijuana offenses at an alarming rate of one every 32 seconds statistically speaking.
