I am really happy that we have this IPA Area, and that we have 53 members, "but" and there is always a "But"  We have 53 members and 12 "Hello's"   Those who have posted have been really great.  I was excited to find an area to interact with other members and those interested in the IPA.    I read about it at the USA IPA Website, and they made it sound exciting and it could be!

I would like to hear from the current members when you have time if your a member and from where, have you attended any IPA functions are you an Officer in the the IPA somewhere?

Would you like to travel?  Have you traveled?  Where?  I have, and  I suspect the other members would be interested in what your doing or would like to do.

Officers from other countries here is the place to ask questions about the USA, and US Officers can find out about the Officers country and Policing in their Country.  Hear it first hand!

I have been a member since 2000, and have traveled to Cyprus, England twice, and to Ireland.  So I know first hand how wonderful the members of this organization are.  Would you like to travel overseas?  It s fun, and  English speaking officers are all over the world.

I am not trying to upset anyone,  just trying to get some discussion going.  53 members is wonderful, maybe if we get more discussion going more officers will stop and give us a look.    Please  add your comments.  I will be looking forward to hearing from you and will try to join any discussions that come up.

I know I asked a lot of questions nothing stopping you from turning one these questions into a discussion.

I really love the IPA, one the best Social Organizations I have ever been in.

Greetings, President of Region 21 in Ohio here.  Have not traveled much, but hope to in the future.  Attended my first National Delegate Conference last year in Las Vegas and will be attending this year's in Colorado Springs.  Hope to get to Gimborn within the next couple of years along with Scotland.  I know the National Third Vice President is registered here, he is a member of Region 21 and my friend, but he has been swamped and I am not sure how often he gets on to check.  He only returns calls and emails on rare occasion.  I am sure some of the others are busy with summer travel and such.  Nice to see some concerned and involved members though.  That is what the IPA needs, people willing to connect and participate.  Look to talk to you soon.

Good points!

Like you,  I think the IPA is the best police org going.   Let me hit your points.

I am a retired copper, 25 years, last served as  Chief.  I joined the IPA about 20 years ago and in 1999 formed Region 57 which is the 34 counties of Southern IL.    In 2003 I ran for US treasurer and am now in my second term (03-06 and 06-09).

As far as general travel, I have been fotunate to have visited every one of the 50 states.   The wife and I visited Hawaii in May so that was number #50.   I have also traveled to Canada, Mexico, Belize, Scotland, England, Germany.

As far as IPA events, I have attended many IPA national conferences and suggest others do to.  You get an real nice mini vacation for very little money.   I have also traveled to Scotland for the Central Scotland 25th anniversary.   I'm going to the IEC this year in Russia.  I was also asked to give a presentation at the IPA training center at Gimborn Castle Germany, in 2003.  I loved that and have been a big supporter of Gimborn since.  Upon my return I asked the national board to create a Gimborn scholarship and we have since sent 5 members to the training center, one each year.

I hope everyone in our group asks one or two other officers, members or not, to join us in this group!

To Armed Commander,

You are right there are no IPA chapters in your country, but I checked on the International site and they state you can become an associate member of another countries IPA.  The email they gave to inquire about doing this is membership@ipa-iac.org.  Anyone else who has more information about this procedure please help him out. thanks.

I just went onto the International site.  Looks like the email system is down.  Could be why you are having a tough go of it.

How much does it cost to register for the conference in Colorado? I looked on the website but couldn't find where it said the cost. I'm thinking about taking the wife, kind of a get the heck away from the house and family thing.

Registration is 195 a person.  It includes a welcome packet, buffet dinner and show at a working ranch, along with usual ending ceremonies buffet dinner.  Rooms are at 75 a night which includes transportation from airport and buffet breakfast.

I've been a member of the IPA (Region 12 - Southeastern MA) for about 9 years; but, as much as I hate to say it, I have yet to attend a meeting (...really don't hear too much from them, but once or twice a year) or any IPA events.

As for traveling, most of my journeys are on a motorcycle and center around another club I have belonged to for many years, the Blue Knights International Law Enforcement Motorcycle Club. I usually go to 3-4 "long weekend" events in the New England area, a few in other parts of the Country, then once a year in July there is a week long International Convention, which is usually located somewhere in North America. This year was in Peoria, IL, next year will be in Louisville, KY. I've also traveled through Canada, fairly extensively in the Eastern Provinces. From time to time I check to see if there are any IPA events that might coincide with a BK trip I might be taking; but I've yet to make that connection.

Thanks for the offer, IPA21.  I know Blue Knights from OH and am good friends with some of them, I stay with them from time to time (usually Dover & Columbus area), and, of course, usually pass thourgh OH to get anywhere west.  Coming back from Peoria, IL in July we ended up staying in Seville, OH for the night.  Will keep your Region in mind.     ;-)

Hey IronmanBK,

IPA21 has the Columbus area locked up and I can cover you in the Northeast section of Ohio.  I am also a member of the Blue Knights Ohio Chapter 2.  Would love to welcome you any time you need a place to visit or crash.

Hello!

I recently attended an IPA course at the international conference center at Castle Gimborn, Germany, and found that it was one of the best training seminars I have attended in 20+ years. The camaraderie was amazing. It seemed like we all became friends within 24 hours. When we were placed in work groups the international borders disappeared and we were just LEO's working together on a project. In hindsight, I would have actually attended sans the IPA scholarship...that's how fun it was!

Sounds great. Lots of good BKs in OH.... ;-) Like I said, I usually I end up making a pit stop in Dover once or twice a year; but didn't get there this year, though I *did* come close when I was cutting across the State on good, old US-30. Sometimes it's *real* nice getting off the Interstates and taking the old US Highways.... ;-)
