The Bible for a lot of christians is just another book,....the people most of the time don't understand what the Bible really means.
The only way to understand the Bible, is in a spirit way, your spirit has to be connected with God`s spirit, (by the Holy Spirit)... you have to be without sins...clean, then you pray in Jesus Christ name' so God will allow your spirit to see what the Bible really means.
That`s why a lot of peaple say that, reads the Bible 100 times and still don't understand.
Keep praying, and God will be with you.

Guess this leaves me out, I'm a sinner but I am glad to see there is one among us free of sin so that he can understand the bible, what type of kool-aid will you be serving?

we are sinners saved by grace....we all fall down but thru Christ we can stand up again. God can speak to the sinner though reading of the word as well. It usually comes in the form of conviction.

I don't agree with your statement....that you have to be without sins to understand the Bible. I'm a sinner and I can understand the Bible. The early Christians were sinners and they had a basic understanding of what the apostles were teaching them from God's Word.

There is know way that is possible because Jesus Christ was the only one without sin. Even prayer and repenting doesn't cause you to be without sin it is always with you. The bible is precisely for people with sin to use as a guide.

The reason people have a problem understanding the bible is partly because of the original text. It was originally in Hebrew, translated to latin and old english and we try to understand writing from several hundred years ago. The original text (hebrew) will never translate exactly to english and it will always be difficult to follow for some people. If you believe that just because you prayed before reading it that you are without sin you are misguided. Your sins may be forgiven if you pray and repent but they will still be there. You are not perfect.

I've read different versions of the bible, Including the very old Latin version, and I'll tell you why its hard to understand. Its been changed too much. Once the bible was finally compilated, it stayed the same for a long long time. When certain figures (Martin Luther, Henry VIII, John Calvin, Huldrych Zwingli, etc) decided that they no longer agreed with certain aspects of the Church, they started their own churches. Part of this process was editing the existing bible by changing wording/meanings or certain passages, adding some things and taking our others, so that their new bibles supported their beliefs. If you compare the old Latin or even some of the old English translations (Duay-Rheims, for example) with the King James Verision or others, you'll find differences that make you go "Hmmmm...".
Since it sounds like you are and avid bible reader, you obviously know that Jesus said "Let he who is without sin cast the first stone." With those words, Our Lord was inplying that we all have sin on our souls and only a hypocrite would say otherwise. Therefore, what you are saying here is not even possible. Dare you disagree with the Word of God?
Reading in a spirit way? Sorry, but once again I have to disagree. The Bible was written as a testament to the past, a history written by devout men who were granted inspiration and wisdom by the Holy Spirit. It is meant to be read with reverence, but to be taken for what it is. Some Christians base too much of their faith around the Bible and treat it as some sort of all-revealing book that guarantees their salvation. Believe what you want, the Bible alone is not going to be anyone's salvation.
The only good thing about your post is that you seem to have your heart in the right place. Yes, keep praying and reading the Bible. Just don't expect to understand everything in it. Just like any history book, if you weren't there at the time the events took place, you'll never know/understand everything that happened.

KSP is right. There are some Hebrew words and phrases that can't be literally translated out of Hebrew. The translators did the best they could when they translated it into Latin, but even then it wasn't perfect. Parts of the Bible were also written in Aramaic, a Semetic language different than Hebrew, which is believed to be the language that Jesus spoke. The only way to get the fullest understanding of the Bible that you possibly can (and even then it'll be lacking), you'll need to learn these languages and read the original text, if you can even find it.

LOL, KSP. The Apocrypha have been thoroughly studied and their authenticity cannot be established. Including what you were alluding to with your very true joke. There are some that take those to be just as authentic as the Bible. (SEO shrugs). The timelines are wrong, the stories are inconsistant, and historically there are mistakes. Personally, I'm not going to agree or disagree with these things. I know for a fact how the bible was put together, and I know that a lot of those Apochypha were in existance, browsed, and dismissed. Some were dismissed simply because they didn't seem relevant to everything else at the time. Others because they were contradictory to everything else. And some...possibly because they were written by a woman in a world where women were considered uneducated, lower class than men, and the concept of an enlightened woman was impossible for men to comprehend.
Of course, KSP, you probably know a lot more about that situation than I do.

Considering that this is the poster's 2nd post (was there and intro I missed?), I highly doubt they will come back to defend their statements. Maybe I'll be pleasantly surprised. I usually stay away from religious debates because its too easy for the other party to become offended.

I believe there are people who think they understand the bible but, really don't and that usually manifests itself by the way those people act such as what interests them, excites them, or when hurting others is when they feel the happiest.
In like manner the spirit also joins in with help for our weakness, for the problem of what we should pray for as we need to we do not know but the spirit itself pleads for us with groanings uttered.

A lot of very good points have been made here the fact is Christianity is based on Faith the first step of Faith is to believe that the Bible was written by individuals, inspired by God. Historians even biblical Historians will tell you that most of the Old Testiment writings were done well after the events they speak of they were passed down verbally from father to son teacher to student. Oral Histories can be inconsistant. The New Testiment Gospels were writen well after the events as well. Most of the other books are letters to different churches of the periods. It all boils down to Faith. The part I find interesting is that Christ is refered to by many other period religins as a teacher or a prophet, Yet if you read some of Christs own teachings and statements, (the I AM...) he is either the Living God or a lunatic, He himself leaves no room for anything in between.
I have Faith that he is the Living God.

It was mainly just for the comedy factor but there have been theorists that say some of the books of the bible were in fact written by a woman however there is no factual evidence to back that. The idea was that since woman were not given the same consideration as men that certain books were credited towards men but actually written by a woman, I don't neccessarily agree or disagree but anything is possible and no I'm not talking about the Davinci Code. But as I started off saying, I wrote that mainly for the humor

Good luck with "being without sin"!
It's interesting to note that one person in the Bible who was guaranteed paradise was a thief who died along side Jesus.
I think it was Paul who marvelled at Christ having died for us while we were yet sinners.
There are a lot of challenges to reading the Bible, some of which have already been mentioned. I notice that if I read Shakespeare, who wrote in my own language a few hundred years ago, I need Cliff notes! So I am not surprised that I need help reading a collection of books that go back thousands of years, and were not written in my language. Fortunately there are some great tools out there for reading the Bible. Even with them, though, there are disagreements about understanding what is written.
I am more interested in seeing how people live out their understanding, even as sinners, than I am in hearing what they think about what they read. It's not that we can stop being sinners. (If we could just stop, we wouldn't need a savior.) But I think you can feel it when someone is trying to put God in charge of their life, trying to live in a holy way.
And you can feel it when they are just posturing, too.

Yes, we should pray for the Holy Spirit to teach us. 2Timothy 3 chapter verses 16 & 17 describes it this way:
2Ti 3:16
Every Scripture is God-breathed (given by His inspiration) and profitable for instruction, for reproof and conviction of sin, for correction of error and discipline in obedience, [and] for training in righteousness (in holy living, in conformity to God's will in thought, purpose, and action),
2Ti 3:17
So that the man of God may be complete and proficient, well fitted and thoroughly equipped for every good work.

I believe that He is the Living God as well. And you are correct that it is all about faith. I take God at his word when it says in His Word that, "All Scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness." I believe the Bible is inspired and infallible from Genesis to Revelation. I believe that God is able to overcome the failed attempts of man to "improve" His message. I believe there is a reason the Bible is the best selling book of all time and that it has changed lives more than any other book in history.
As far as the "without sin" idea the original poster spoke of, I would like to know what is meant by that. We are all sinners otherwise Jesus died for no reason. I would hope he was speaking of the fact that we can be cleansed and MADE holy by the blood of the Lamb. I like to say that Christians aren't perfect, they are perfected (by Jesus' blood of course). In other words, when God looks at one His children, He sees the Blood and not the sin. Just my $.02.
2 Cor. 5:17 "Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; old things have passed away; behold all things have become new."

Sorry, but I get three red flags popping up on this
1 No introduction posted. Who is this?
2. From this and one other post by this person, I smell legalism. I despise legalism. It makes all believers look like idiots and haters. Jesus' ministry freed us from legalism, and the Word warns us to never go back to it. It is the foundation of religious wars and persecution. Jesus taught a relationship with God, not a religious form to follow.
3. Cultic influence. Possibly an adherant to "the ONE true form of Christianity", the rest of us believe wrongly and are going to hell. Grew up in a religion like that and I am very sensitive to such nonsense. I can see it coming a mile away. Don't have time for it.
Go out today and preach the gospel, and if you must, use words. St. Francis of Assisi

Keep praying, and God will be with you.
