Posted 2 months ago The Fox Reality channel has a season TV show titled "The Academy" which shows week by week the Los Angeles Sheriff's Department. If you're thinking it's a show like Reno 911, it's not... It's the actual academy and it's amazing to watch. Just thought I would share it with those of you who have not yet discovered it. It's also available to download from itunes for 1.99 an episode. The show is on Saturday nights at 9pm EST.

| Posted 2 months ago Well from the looks of their website, the new episodes air Saturdays at 9pm EST, but are also aired every few hours through Sunday night as well. |

| Posted 2 months ago I stand corrected, I guess I have only watched it on sundays, never caught it on saturday nights. I do enjoy the show, I actually have a disscusion started already. Check it out, a couple guys made some good points. |

| Posted 2 months ago ok.. .Well, I went through the Vermont part time basic certification in March, which consisted of 1 week of classroom material, with one day at the range with a final exam. The fulltime academy is 17 weeks and there are two classes a year. I plan to attend the Full time basic class within a year or two of being a part time deputy. This show is giving me more of a depiction of what to expect, even though I'm sure the Vermont academy differs slightly from the LASD Academy. I know for some people it may just be "entertainment on a saturday night" to watch this, but for me it's more of a wake-up call, having not yet gone through any PT, or scenarios. |

| Posted 2 months ago I enjoy the show as well. I know the show is edited for television purposes, but I do tend to wonder how some of those recruits made it through the selection process. Some just appear to be really ate up. OC, good luck to you. If you are starting to prepare this early then you should be just fine. Be safe. |

| Posted 2 months ago Those of us who are LASD hate the show and hate what it does to our training program All the drama.. jeesh please.. everyone including the tac staff is getting into it...
If you mix Hollywierd and Law Enforcement you are bound to get screwed up...
The ONLY mission according to street deputies is to TRAIN people to become good coppers... no drama ..no fanfare ..no accolades.. just do it..
Of course Im not a slick willy politician Sheriff.. just a lowly retired sergeant... which I happen to think is one of the greatest positions on the department.. you are still allowed to keep one testicle... |
