Posted 3 months ago When they tell you to put all citations down on you questionaire, do the ones that were dismissed count? |

In a nutshell, yes.
Some may argue that only these for which you were found or plead guilty apply, but I differ.
Remember, complete, full and honest disclosure at all times.

| Posted 3 months ago yes, they didn't say all citations where you were found guilty did they? Answer all questions honestly. Police Link Forums Moderator PAIN IS WEAKNESS LEAVING THE BODY! Obstacles are what you see when you lose sight of the goal. I'd rather die trying than live as a coward. |

| Posted 3 months ago Yes, if you don't list it and they find it (and they WILL find it) it will look like you are trying to hide it. That will disqualify you from most, if not all back grounds. All thats is needed for evil to triumph is for good men to do nothing. |

He's absolutely right, if it looks like you're lying you're done- tell them ALLLLLLLLL your deep dark secrets. They will know about it already and just want to see what you say. | Posted 3 months ago Were they dismissed because you didn't commit the offense or because the officer didn't show for court ? That is why you list everything. They will find out anyway and if they feel you lied to try and hide ANYTHING....you are FINISHED.

| Posted 3 months ago Every single one. If a background investigator calls every local that you've lived in they may find something that was dismissed. List them reguardless of the dispostion. Most of these history statements ask for the DATE, LOCATION, CHARGE, and DISPOSTITION. These background checks are more about your honesty than anything. The number you have dialed "9-1-1" is not a working number. If you feel you have this message is an error please hang up and don't call back. |

| Posted 3 months ago Better to list them all and put the disposition or outcome next to each of them that way they see which ones were dismissed but you are still totally forthcoming otherwise it may look like you omitted stuff on purpose. Good luck. Police work- the greatest show on earth and my team always wins!!!

| Posted 3 months ago Yes. When I do a background I check each state and city that the applicant has resided in. If they do not list them I want to know why. I also indicate this when I recommend or not recommend them to continue in the process. I also use it as a DQ tool if the applicant is marginal due to omissions on the application. I check regardless if dismissed or what ever. |

| Posted 3 months ago I have found it is better to be up front. A traffic offense will most likely not get you DQ'd, but the perception that you were trying to hide it will. |

| Posted 3 months ago I have filled out several applications for departments, and they serpeate listings for traffic citations and criminal detention. I had declaired that I had two citations in the traffic question area, and nothing in the criminal detention. A few depts took expection with that, because a traffic stop is consider a criminal violation. They didn't kick me for that, in fact, depsite this oversite I was even offered a few jobs when I didn't list both, in both locations, but it was brough up during interviews. Now after working for a few years, I still think it's retarded, but you will need to list both so it won't come up. |

That a real encouraging statement. Come in and ask a simple question, and we'll belittle you and tell you not to be in law enforcement. |

No it is not. I am sure it is some states, but not every where. There are several states, such as WA, where most traffic offenses are infractions of the law and a criminal violation. You cannot be arrest for an infraction in WA, and suspect it is the case in several other jurisidctions. Which is why applications should ask when have you been contacted by law enforcement not just arrests, tickets etc. As for the question. It is said there are no stupid questions, but there are poorly thought out questions. Personally I think there are both, you can choose which one this is. It was clear in that all, not just convicted or have found commited. You have the rest of your life to solve the problem, how long your life lasts depends on how well you do it - Clint Smith |

In TX, a traffic violation is a Class C misd. and only two violations you cannot be arrested at the time of offense, speeding and open container violations. I won't do it, but you can get arrested for having an expired inspection. |
