Dead Horse Theorem
Posted 2 months ago Dead Horse Theorem The tribal wisdom of the Dakota Indians, passed on from one generation to the next, says that when you discover that you are riding a dead horse, the best strategy is to dismount. But in modern business (and education and government) because heavy investment factors are taken into consideration, other strategies are often tried with dead horses, including the following: o Buying a stronger whip. o Changing riders. o Threatening the horse with termination. o Appointing a committee to study the horse. o Arranging to visit other sites to see how they ride dead horses. o Lowering the standards so that dead horses can be included. o Reclassifying the dead horse as "living-impaired." o Hiring outside contractors to ride the dead horse. o Harnessing several dead horses together to increase speed. o Providing additional funding and/or training to increase the dead horse's performance. o Doing a productivity study to see if lighter riders would improve the dead horse's performance. o Declaring that the dead horse carries lower overhead and therefore contributes more to the bottom line than some other horses. o Rewriting the expected performance requirements for all horses. o Promoting the dead horse to a management position.
If you're going to be dumb, you better be tough.

| Posted 2 months ago This is exactly what happened in our local election in Maricopa County, Arizona, when we (myself included) re-elected Mr. Arpaio. Since that time the people of the county have been riding that dead horse and now some of them are actually thinking they might just saddle up and go for another long ride, with no end in sight, and no direction, and no one to ride with them. Sarcasm, yes, but reality says it's time for the people of Maricopa County to get off the dead horse and start making strides toward professional law enforcement in Maricopa County, Arizona. |
