Going to college for CSI... I've a lot of questions!

Posted 5 months ago Hi, My name's Britani (aka Brit). I'm and 04 high school graduate in AZ (maricopa). I'm hoping to enroll for the fall semester at a local comm college for CSI work, thing is, is well I feel kinda stupid asking this but I really have no idea how to go about it, what program I should actually take to get me where I want to go, I mean there's CJ, there's Crime scene tech, LE Training Academy, and many others. I know that being a gunsmith's daughter that I do want to specialize in Ballistics, as well as a few other things which are offered as certs, but like I said I have no idea where to start (and that includes how to pay for it) On top of that I've got two concerns... I've moderate-severe hearing loss in both ears (granted I wear hearing aides) and I'm heavy set (yes the gym is calling my name!) I'm worried about weather or not I'd be accepted into a dept concidering the military won't take me because of the hearing. I don't want to go to school for however many years and find out that because of either of these they won't hire me. I'd also like to get a job that teaches me while I'm going to school, something that I can grow on before getting where I wanna be. Can anyone help me sort these out? Any and all thoughts appreciated! Brit |

| Posted 5 months ago Well, if thats what you want to do, then I say go at it. Look around, and call departments and ask what they need you to do, or what you can do to work in that feild for them. Check out kentuckystatepolice.org. I love each day like its my last! Why do we are have to be so serious? |

| Posted 5 months ago Also, as you go through your CSI schooling, focus and become really proficiaent on the things like fingerprints, tool marks, tire impresions, DNA analysis, and the like disciplines that don't require super duper hearing. Is far as your weight...try to get in with a county Sheriff's reserve division or a police reserve in your town. This will get your foot in the law enforcement door and also will show you whether or not you want to work for a copshop or a crime lab. There is a place for you but definitely contact crime labs and cop shops and ask alot of questions. | Posted 5 months ago you don't really go to college to become a CSI, you go for forensic science, or criminal justice Pain is weakness leaving the body. Obstacles are what we see when we take our eyes off the goal. |

| Posted 5 months ago Some departments mandate that such persons be sworn police officers , others dont but still have minimum hiring standards as fas as weight and hearing, vision etc. Before you spend any money on a degree that you cannot use , you should find out exactly what the standards are and what agencies otherwise require. PS CSI is TV. A criminal investigator or a criminal lab tech do a lot of other things besides what you see on tv. Don't get too starry eyed over a TV show.

| Posted 5 months ago its a CJ we've been calling CSI for a long time because the college that my sister went to for her LPN (awesome nursing program) in Texas was stupid enough to call their Forensic Science program their "CSI Program" and it was right on the roster. We've always called it that since it happend. *shrugs*
Thanks to everyone that responded, some were a lot of help Brit |
