I personally had the best time of my life there. I know some people have said that NA stood for Never Again but not me. I would go back in a heart beat if given half the chance. I have heard that it is different a little bit since 911. I loved the New York trip and all of the other site seeing trips on the weekends while I was there. The networking was incredible. Anyways, I could go on and on but I will stop for now so as not to bore anyone.

Ditto, Darick. I would give my right arm to be 38 again and attending the academy or just to be engaged in police work again. I really, really miss it. I attended 95th session in 1973. Seems like only yesterday, many fond memories. I live in south central PA and I commuted every weekend in my 67 Plymouth Sport Satellite,

I was older than 38 when I went through (Session 214) but it was without a doubt one of the most important decisions I made in my career to attend. Aside from that, it was a great environment for learning and networking. The off time was always different and there were things to see and do constantly! Would I do it again? You wouldn't have to ask me twice!

I miscalculated Don, My session started in Sept. so actually I was 39, birthday in August. I was also in pretty good condition at that time and had no trouble with the PT. We had an instructor named "Yogi" who I think was a sado/masochist and his boss was named "Gump" they tried to make it a most painful experience. I pitied some of the older guys in the class, some of whom were at or pushing 50 which I think was the cutoff age. We all made it thorough however with flying colors by helping each other, which is the name of the game, right.

My PT instructor was a female that was very pleasing on the eyes. Our class as a whole would storm hell with a pocket knife for her! The pain was pleasurable!! LOL

I had just turned 50 when I went (224) in 2006. There were five of us over fifty and one at 57 so I don't think there is an "official" cut off on age. The pt was a litle rough in the beginning but we found out that with a little (or lot) of help from 250 of your closiest friends you can get but. There were a couple of younger but very out of shape guys who just refused to create pain for themselves. They would act like they were participating but but everyone, including the instructors, knew they were not and there just wasn't anything they could do about it. I mean face it how in the world would you or could you punish them. I think most of the pt instructors wanted to help and did what they could but they also realized we were all command level personnel who were going to do what we wanted. It was the greatest experience of my policing career and would go back in a heartbeat.

Well guess what Commander? First of all, no one from my department would've been aloud to attend unless they were in shape. Secondly, if any word whatsoever got back to our department that an officer acted in anyway that would reflect negatively on our department that officer's career would be essentially over, command level or not!! Our Chief at the time would call up there and check on our Officers to see how they were doing! Also, everyone was expected to come back with a yellow brick. We had one guy in our class that didn't participate in the challenge runs and started to get his brick and about 10 of us refused to let him take it!! Needless to say he left with his head down knowing he had no one to blame but himself!! Our Department made it clear that it was an honor and a privilege not a right to attend!!
Now don't think Commander that I am chastising you, I was just sharing with you how our Department punished people or kept slackereds from attending. :-)

We were required to pass a physical by our department doctor and submit a form with his findings before we were accepted. We were also told that if we didn't meet the guidelines when we arrived at the NA our state would lose one of it's spots in the next class, meaning you would cause someone else to miss out on the academy experience. Not good.

Attending the NA is almost impossible on my job. With 10,000 possible candidates (Lt or Sgts) I was lucky enough to attend and it was by far the best experience I've ever had while being a cop. Met amazing people, the courses are great, it was an all around great experience.

Congratulations John! What session did you attend? Out of that many potential candidates you must have been the cream of the crop!
