Posted 2 months ago I posted this in the metro Atlanta group but since obviously you're not all in that group, here it is in the open forum. I can't wait to hear all the facts come to light on this one.

Cobb County authorities charged a 36-year-old Atlanta police officer with killing a security guard at a Marietta apartment complex after the guard inexplicably barged into the officer's residential unit early Saturday. Police spokesman Sgt. Dana Pierce said officers found security guard Xavier Mallet, 37, dead, lying in the parking lot in front of building No. 6 at the Ivy Ridge Apartment just before 4:30 a.m. Pierce said investigators were told Mallet started banging on APD officer John Kevin Freeman's door and then forced his way inside when Freeman's wife answered. The woman, who was not identified, ran while Freeman and Mallet confronted each other inside the unit. Police say Freeman then retrieved a gun from inside the apartment and shot the security guard as he left the scene. Freeman is being held without bond on charges of murder and aggravated assault. A spokesman for the Atlanta Police Department said he did not know how the charges would affect Freeman's job with APD. The part that is most likely going to get him convicted is hilighted above. Was the LEO in danger as the SG was running away? This part was funny though: Mallet started banging on APD officer John Kevin Freeman's door and then forced his way inside when Freeman's wife answered. The woman, who was not identified...... So was she identified or wasn't she? KSP494

| Posted 2 months ago I am sure there is a lot more to this than is being said. If some dumb ass Security Guard 'forced' his way into my house he would be shot dead too. |

| Posted 2 months ago There's obviously something missing. There better be a damned good reason for a Security Guard to be barging into anybody's apartment. I agree with KSP though. That bolded part is the hangman's noose. This is ugly. |

You and me both, but as it is written in the story, my first question is if the SG was leaving the residence why were the shots fired if that is the way it happened. KSP494

Key point is highlighted. Guy was leaving the area (supposedly) when he was shot. Protect property and assets all you want, doing that isn't legal in most circumstances. We need more info. |

but you must have missed the part where the guy was leaving. In KY I'm good on the shooting part as long as the guy isn't outside and leaving my residence. If you're going to shoot them shoot them inside the residence. And if you shoot them in the back you better hope they have a weapon.

| Posted 2 months ago One of my professors once told us (laughing) that if you ever shoot someone make sure they are in your house .... and if they aren't .. make sure they are when the cops get there. LOL Perhaps this guy miss that in class?

I heard the same thing: "If you shoot a burglar and he falls outside your doorway, drag his ass in before the police show up." As for the story, I agree with everyone else, there have to be more details that what are listed here. |

| Posted 2 months ago KSP is right if the "facts" are as presented in the story. However, as we all know, the media gets things wrong all of the time. In this case though, it doesn't sound good for the officer. 2 Cor. 5:17 "Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; old things have passed away; behold all things have become new." |

I think its safe to assume they at least knew 'of' each other, since I'm sure a cop living in the apartment complex and the SG guarding would at the very least acknowledge that they exist to each other. Having worked housing before, what you're saying is a possibility, but who can say? The person who could have easily answered that is deceased. We'll have to wait until the idiot media gets updated, then try to sort the truth from the bullsh*t as usual. |

I just checked today's news and it's still the same. Courage is resistance to fear, mastery of fear - not absence of fear. |

| Posted 2 months ago Lots of possibilities here: What if the APD officer and wife were having a domestic fight and the security guard was sent to check it out? Regardless of whether he should or should not have stepped inside, he may or may not have had Color of Right to do so, after stepping back out , he should not have been shot down. He obviously, was not a burglar rapist who just happened to be wearing a security guard uniform, or the officer would not have been charged with murder. Handling domestics with cops involved is the worst. Did this guy have a security car double parked outside that he was returning to? Did he even have a gun? The rule is in deed, that if you must shoot, do it inside. However, the old joke about dragging them back in is not a good move. Blood trails, drag marks, splatters, etc. all tell their story. Just dont shoot once they run out. Recently, Prince George county MD had an officer shoot two men who were in his apartment repossessing furniture. One died. Apparently, they had paperwork to get the property because he was indicted. They were not armed, he knew why they were there. Sometimes, your castle is not just yours, if you rent things and don't pay the bill or return them. |

| Posted 2 months ago there is more to this story and i don't think the police officer should be behind bars. there was a case in Louisville kentucky that involved a white police officer who shot a black teenage male in the back when he was running away from the officer. the officer said he fired shots because he feared for his life. the victim did not have a weapon on him. the officer was put on paid adminstrated leave and was later found not guilty because they said the shooting was justified. So why is this officer in jail and in jeopardy of going to prison???? |

Care to enlighten us, then as to why he would force his way into a COP's apartment at 0430 hours? In the meantime, the shooter is in custody and facing charges.... I'm not "really" a troll....I just love changing my avatar... because...

Enlighten us, please, if you actually know something that you're allowed to share. As a Security Officer, I'm very interested in this case. |
