Exercise while on 3rd

Posted 3 months ago Do any of you lovely people who work 3rd do any type of mild exercise while working 3rd shift?
If so, what? Two things are infinite: the universe and human stupidity; and I'm not sure about the universe.

Ah, that can make things a little more difficult. Vigorous patrol helps a lot as long as you're alert. A couple of our dispatchers have these little things that look like mini stair-stepper machines that they keep under the desk and can use from a seated position. That way its discreet, and when nobody is around they can use it. Granted its not the best form of exercise, but its better than nothing. It all depends on how active the area is where you sit desk, and how much you can do without people seeing you and wondering wtf you're doing, lol. Whenever you can, get up and walk around (if you're able to leave the desk for a few minutes). I think most of you're exercise is going to have to be off duty unless you're post is out of sight and off camera. Take a look at resistance type items (some look like giant rubber bands) that you can keep in a bag or drawer. You can use your feet to hold them and work your upper body in many different ways. They're very versatile, and if you can't find any a doctor can easily order some for you for little to no cost. I guess in the end, the question is are you more concerned with cardio type exercise to get your blood pumping, or little strengthening excercises? |

luckily after about 0230 there is only me, one other guard in my building and our Sergeant.. And our guard goose...Gary. The lobby is rather large. I have been doing an exercise program for the past 10 months to prepare me to take the police academy test, so I have been concentrating on cardio and strength. I guess my biggest concern is fitting a workout with shift work, school and sleep. As far as those mini stair steppers, I think I have seen them around our building. I'll have to see about getting one. I do do stretches at my desk to wake myself up. I've even thought about doing push ups from time to time. Two things are infinite: the universe and human stupidity; and I'm not sure about the universe.

Two laps around the access road to my property is 2.3 miles. I walk it and on Sunday AM I jog it while in the bike patrol uniform. Rest of the time on patrol I use the stairs to access areas that normally I would use escalators during my day/swing shifts. |
