I am looking to buy a handgun and I was told these two handguns are the best.  I've shot before, and do much better with the  1911. I really like the .45 and have no problem controlling the recoil.

Your thoughts?

I have shot both pistols and like both.  I personally like the Glock model 21 .45 caliber better.

I highly recommend the glock.  But in .45 I am also a fan of the Springfeild XD.  1911's can be tempromental.

I reject your reality and submit my own.

April,

If you're not considering a position as a LEO, find a REPUTABLE local firearms instructor to teach you the basics, then get to a gun range where you can rent different handguns to try before you plunk down a bunch of $$$.

There are numerous advantages & disadvantages to each pistol, and it depends upon YOUR needs....what works best for me, might not be best for YOU and vice versa.

A firearm is a tool and like any other tool, each has it's appropriate uses.

Best of luck and no matter what keep all firearms SECURE from unauthorized users....kids, neighbors, burglars....

I have shot my boyfriends kimber, I find it to be much more ergonomical, plus I find conducting speed reloads in tactical reloads much easier with the single stack magazine as to the glock magazine.

I have no problem manipulating the mechanical safety and feel much more comfortable with this gun, but it has more weight than the glock.

If you prefer the ergonomics of the 1911...then stay with it....the weight is in your favor, in reducing felt recoil for the same caliber. Also, the 1911 is thinner, thus concealed carry on your person is easier...especially if you're already up to speed & tactical reloading drills.

The reloading drills are no problem, my only issue is I can't get use to carrying a handgun in condition one.

I have the most fun with the transition drills between carbine and pistol :)

I have both Glocks and a Colt and Kimber 1911's like to shoot them all, my favorite is a Kahr 45 compact single stack 5+1 it functions like Glock but fits my hand comparable to the 1911. But as stated above choose what works for you, shoot several different one before you chunk cash down and find out your not happy with the purchase. Good luck and good shooting. Glock is like budweiser either you like it or you dont. Me I like the new S&W MP1 in 45

I would trust my life with a Glock as far as reliability is concerned. I have found that 1911's jam from time to time, depends on the ammunition and manufacturer. To each is own, I guess it all boils down to what you are the most comfortable with. I carry the Glock for duty and my 1911 Kimber Pro Eclipse II is for play. The Glock 21 may be to large a frame for your hands so if you go with the Glock you may want to consider the new 21SF model or the model 36 both in 45 ACP.

I would go with the glock. 1911's can be tempermental, as someone else stated, depending on ammo, feedramp and such. The .45GAP is also a nice sized weapon for smaller hands if that's an issue.

Probably be a safe bet to say whichever one you shoot better with.  If you have a choice you better try them both before making the call.

I have both the 21c, and 1911 commander, both are great weapons, but like the rest here, it would come down to personal choice, pro's and con's on both. Glad to see more fans of the 45acp.

There is nothing wrong with carrying the 1911 in condition one....you have 3 safeties....Grip safety, Thumb safety, and the most important one.....the Brain Housing Group safety....

btw....in case you haven't noticed, you're making the crowd crazy.....men cops love chicks with guns....

What is your budget?

I prefer a steel framed weapon over poly for the most part.  I am also a big 1911 type but remember that not all 1911's are created equal.  One of my favorite cal choices is of course the .45ACP.  If you have the time and money to invest in the weapon, a 1911 is a top choice in my book.  Not much sweeter than a finely tuned 1911.  I love my Ed Brown and will own it until the day I die.  One of the slickest shooting 1911's I have ever put my paws on.

Having said that, I do have a G21SF and it is a very reliable and good shooter.  It is a good "duty" type of weapon.  You can rest assured that they will take a beating and go bang even if the gun is dirty and dry.  They are priced good also.  You will not get the same type of feel doing a reload with poly glock mags as opposed to 1911 mags.

The most ideal situation would to be able to shoot both weapons back to back for a good comparison.  You might also want to look into a Sig Sauer P220.

I have a Glock 22 for Duty work and 1911 I carry off duty.

No question, go with the 1911. I wish I could carry it for duty work

Love the Kobra Karry :) I have handled the G21SF side by side with the G21 and do not feel that the thinner frame is significant enough to warrant the purchase :)

I have shot the P220 and I am not fond of the long double action trigger pull:)

I am Irish so I have small.............hands. I have a Glock Model 30, 45 auto. It holds 10 in the mag and it fits my hand great. It's extremely compact, accurate and easy to conceal. The recoil is minimal. Carried it for years on duty and still carry it retired. Love that little sucka!

Actually the SF is a "short frame" and not a "slim frame" like most think.  The grip is 3mm shorter from front to back and the width is the same on both.  In any event, it is what feels best in your hand that matters.

IMO, if you go with a Sig Sauer the only trigger to go with is the SA/DA SRT trigger and not a DAO or DAK trigger.  The trigger you mention on the Sig that you fired is the latter and I am not a fan of it.  Also IMO the Glock is not even in the same category as the Sig Sauer.  ;)

Also, if you go with the Glock DO NOT get the New York trigger.  They suck even worse.

Regardless of width or length the G21 series is to big for my hand :)

Regardless of trigger mechanisims every Sig Sauer P series pistol I have seen has a first shot DA trigger pull that has to be overcome before SA can be achieved :)
