Has anyone heard of this "phenomenon" of 12-21-2012 about this will be the last day of the world?  I was watching a show about it on either History or Discovery and it was interesting.  I do not believe it at all, but was wondering if anyone else had heard and their thoughts on it.  Thanks!

I saw the same program an it can get you to thinking. I am not worried because I know I am right with God. The date has been around for awhile. I studies the Mayan, and Aztecs in High School and this date was found in their symbols on the temples in Mexico to say when the God who came and gave them knowledge and such would return. I like to read and investigate the old civilizations when I have time, but I still place my faith in God.

The date has some scientific importance.  According to astronomers, on December 21, 2012, many celestial bodies will line up with the earth and pass very close.  This is a very rare occurrece.  The theory is that this event could cause the magnetic poles of the earth shift.  If that were to happen, we would be in a wee bit of trouble.  I dont believe the date has any religious importance.  I think it will be a scientific event.  Supposedly, the poles have shifted before.  Theres a lot of information out there, but a good bit of it is BS from religious quacks and cults trying to prove the apocalypse.

I never heard of it and I think it is rediculous, nobody will know the time or the place.

This date is the reported date the world, or at least mankind, will end. This is in the Mayan and Hopi calender and teaching. It is also in the teaching of a couple of other tribes from around the world. Additionally Nostradamus also made the prediction as did Edgar Cayce both big and renown psychics. There is also some indication and interpretation that the bible also give the time period in that area. Furthermore as noted it will be one of those very rare occasions when everything in the solar system and part of the Galaxy as well is lined up and a possibility the earth's magnetic field will swap, again! The earth did that before and damn near everything died that time. Now with ALL that said and done there is NOTHING to indicate this estimated time of the earth's destruction MORE than this ONE SIMPLISTIC FACT and this is why I KNOW the world will end on that day. I turn old enough to collect Social Security on my own on the 20th without having to claim disability. Therefore, MURPHY's LAW will happen, and that's a fact ,Jack!

I am like you.  I don't believe it.  The Bible says that He will come as a thief in the night.  How can anyone predict the return of our Lord?  Thanks.

I agree ccso. As bad as things are, they will get a whole lot worse. Now, of course things can real bad real fast. Thankfully we do know who will win in the end. Praise God above.

I have heard some "experts" talking about the variations in calendars and the like that could make the actual time of this alignment with the galactic center as early as the summer of 2009, instead of 2012. I have a feeling that something will occur, but not necessarily the "end of the world". If we survived a pole shift, and the magnetic field were reversed, wouldn't electrons then flow the opposite direction (positive to negative)? Better be ready to flip the batteries in my LED flashlight! The Maya seemed to believe that it was the end of one age and the beginning of another, possibly a period of enlightenment. I believe the end will be as the scripture prophecies state, "no man knows the hour or day". Don't necessarily say we won't be able to narrow it down to within a week or a month. We were told to watch the signs of prophecy being fullfilled in order to know when the time was at hand, and to be able to recognize them just as we do the changing of the seasons. One verse in scripture has always been on my mind about seeing the "sign of the son of man coming in the heavens", and knowing that the end was almost here. Don't rightly know what that sign may be, but I haven't seen anything in the heaven's yet to even consider. Who really knows for sure, and does it really matter to those of us who are ready to go? May be the start of the period of tribulation for all I know.

I don't think it says that in Revalation.  No one can predict what day the end will be.  Even if you're here when that day comes, it'll already be too late.  You already missed the rapture.

I wholeheartedly agree with aedm2004. We will all see an "end of the world", since we are all appointed once to die. When the time comes for the soul to depart the body, the world has effectively ended. I know there is nothing in the Bible about this subject. But then again maybe there is. There were some things uttered by the seven Thunders that John was ordered to not write. We have no way of knowing what those things were, but just from the context, I'm pretty sure it wasn't good news for mankind. Could have been that mankind would someday legalize the slaying of unborn babies, or allow same sex marriage. Maybe a pole shift, maybe the return of the fallen angels in the guise of ET's, maybe some other great calamities we could not or would not expect. I'm sure there was a reason why John was forbidden to share this knowledge with us. All we can do is live our life as close to God as possible and be ready to go when the time comes. My mother was a strong believer in the rapture taking God's people out before things got really bad. I'm pretty sure it says for the elects sake the time is shortened, not eliminated. The early Christian's probably didn't expect to be crucified by the Romans or face lions in the Roman colliseum either. Yet they did.
