Posted 2 months ago Hello. We already started a thread on this topic, but for some reason it's not showing up in the most recent topics. Perhaps the site is malfunctioning? | Posted 2 months ago How unusual! I believe, but have been wrong so many times in the past , that a thread will not get bumped up to the front of the most recent thread after 7 days. I recall when I was doing that combined years on the job thread that I had to cut and paste a new one each week. That could be the reason other than the conspiracy reason. I think that is the cause though and in order to keep it up there you have to resubmit it every 7 days or so. Being a Tyrant does not make one a Leader! |

I saw two guys in suits and sunglasses carrying the thread away earlier this evening. Their "Secret Service" lapel pins give them away! So did the "secret" handshake and hip-bump.

| Posted 2 months ago Yup...those are the two. See that thing up his sleeve? - These two are obviously the two that knocked on my door late at night and wrestled the toaster oven cord from my grasp. Now they have a choice , either Massachusetts or California , how come N.J. never adopted the marriage thing , I need to be careful of the other thing or chimp will come down on me like the A.C.L.U. on a Police involved shooting. | Posted 2 months ago Just to let everyone know, today the management of Police Link clarified who is eligible for the gold leo star. There has been confusion regarding this issue. This is the post. What we formerly called "LEO Verification" was changed to "Restricted Access" in order to clarify that restricted accesss was intended only as a way for eligible PoliceLink members to access restricted features and not necessarily as a way to define what type of law enforcement they are in. It was never intended as a way to differentiate between "patrol officers" and other types of law enforcement personnel. The criteria for who is eligible has never been changed from what it was when it was originally introduced. In order to avoid confusion, we did make some clarifications to the criteria list and broke it out in a little more detail. This is available both on the access request form and on the "What is PoliceLink?" information page, both of which are accessible from the Forums home page. There was a post in this thread asking about an attorney who had access to the restricted areas. As specified in the criteria, any member who is considered a peace officer by their state's laws is eligible to receive access to restricted areas. States such as Virginia, Florida, and several others consider Commonwealth's Attorneys / District Attorneys, etc., to be peace officers. Therefore, in those specific cases they are eligible for access to restricted areas on PoliceLink. As mentioned in several previous postings, the access to restricted areas has nothing to do with HR 218 nor to identify what type of law enforcement a specific member works in. It has to do only with providing access to restricted areas for law enforcement professionals. Placing the badge on a user's profile is done as a matter of convenience for other members to easily identify if a member has access to restricted areas by going through the verification process. If you are not interested in permitting people into your private groups or interacting with them based on their specific law enforcement affiliation or background, that is completely your right to do so. Civilian law enforcement personnel, security guards, and members not covered by verification criteria will not be granted access to restricted areas. Just thought everyone should be made aware of this for future reference and to avoid any confusion as to who is "verified." Being a Tyrant does not make one a Leader! |

| Posted 2 months ago It becomes important when you share sensitive material that is not for everyone's eyes.Just because thy have the gold badge doesn't mean they are a cop and just because PL doesn't differentiate doesn't mean you shouldn't. | Posted 2 months ago Always question, suspect, and doubt as far as you can before accepting someone online is LE, and I am not putting any faith in PL to tell me who is who isn't, so it's a waste of their time to give a badge to anyone as an absolute confirmation. |

| Posted 2 months ago I respect some of the consideration that goes towards attorneys but those of us who are sworn peace officers see this all the time; the guy prosecuting your case today is going to be the private attorney defending some turd next year. And what happens when this attorney is no longer a prosecutor? Does he lose is little badge? Police Link Forums Moderator PAIN IS WEAKNESS LEAVING THE BODY! |

| Posted 2 months ago All you need to do is look at the ads concerning DUI defense attorneys. Almost all of them claim that at one time they were one of the leading DUI prosecutors in the past and 'know' ow to get you off the charges. Yup, attorneys are certainly trustworthy. Remember who the politicians are? Lawyers. Need I say more? |

Sarge is right, it's for personal grooming in case his hair gets mussed in a passionate kiss. Henry is also right that they make a lovely couple. This photo was taken while waiting for their third party outside the "Happy Cowboy" lounge. |

| Posted 2 months ago Not for nothing... But I would never share any sensitive information on this site whether in the "restricted access" areas or not. The admins of this site are civilians who can access EVERYTHING, whether they do or not, they do have that ability. INFOSEC should always be observed and if you have something of a sensitive nature you want to pass on to someone with a need to know, it should be done through secure channels, not through a (ahem) "restricted" group on a public web site. There's no "I" in team... But there's 2 in idiot |

| Posted 2 months ago I will comment here, since the other thread seems to be having issues. Some of what I say may not be a popular and it may put my butt on the line around here. Many have hinted at it, said it, or think it, but in good faith, it needs to be said again. I haven't been here long, but I absolutely do not trust the little badge deal. I was interested in this site as I was referred and told it was a verified status type of site and I felt it may have some good benefits for exchange of information. Before posting my first introductory post, I submitted ALL of my LEO verification info required at that time. Apparently it has changed, but I haven't looked. I am rather disappointed in what I have found. Not so much that the site does not have interest for me, but rather that it was not quite the Verified LEO type of site that I had imagined. This place does seem quite romper-roomish compared to many other professional sites, which in a way has its own unique "Days of Our Lives" way of drumming up membership and the overall site activity, which in essence boosts the sites bottom line monetarily via advertisers. I believe that this site is more geared towards profit as opposed to serving the professional LEO community. Which I am not against a site being profitable, however I do believe that the ownership has a responsibility to accurately service the community for which it is supposedly based upon and making money off of. Unfortunately as we in LE know it is truly hard to understand us as cops and the job that we do, unless if you have actually walked a mile in our boots. This is probably where the problem lies with this sites ownership not actually being in LE. I do give the owner credit for the odmp site and trying to provide a place here. Having done admin and moderating duties on other sites I understand the complex issues that a site faces both from an IT standpoint and from a membership standpoint. I understand that this site is new and is going through some growing pains, yada, yada, yada, and hopefully these issues are being addressed behind closed keyboards, but in reality the LEO community here does need more assurance of whom they are interacting with. If site is going to offer LEO Verification, morally and perhaps legally there is obligations that should be met, as "practically" as possible. Of course "practically" is open to interpretation, but in good faith we try to trust the process. Of course NO website is secure and people will slip through the cracks and we need to be aware of what we post, even in secure areas and we need to be mindful of PERSEC and OPSEC at all times. However, we should hope for tighter controlled LEO only areas as well as what once was the ask a cop area. I understand the Groups area and applaud those who are trying to keep tight reigns on LEO only groups but quite frankly the entire Badge symbol is a guarantee of nothing. As mentioned, in good faith we try to trust. But when the trust has been broken, it is hard to get it back and heal. LE and LEO are a unique group. We have the ability to smell a rat or we will usually know someone, who knows someone, who should know who you claim to be. So policing controlled areas can work well. The following is a great pattern to to look at, for those interested in their own groups or sites. I am a member of a few vetted types of sites, that are top notch. One in general has its own sub-membership that takes its cue from the movie "The Fight Club". No one talks about it and it does not exist. I was a member of the site for over a year and had no clue about the sub-membership and its related forums. It was never mentioned in public forums, ever. You needed to be a productive contributing member, not just welcome to PL, or bump, to up your post count. You needed a certain amount of membership time and most importantly you needed to be directly vouched for by another member, mostly after being met in person, then seconded by another member and then the entire sub-community had a vote. 1 single nay and you never, ever learn of the place or your nomination. If the person you nominate turns out to be a fake, or is an issue of any sort, his ass is out along with yours. There are some pretty powerful people who are behind those keyboards and what they are capable of is quite amazing. Talk about a fraternity of true professionals, that is a pattern to follow for those interested in starting their own site or group. |
