Posted 4 months ago I am a state constable in South Carolina with 7 years active service, and the last 4 with the rank of Cpl. thought I'd kick around see whats what. We run to the sound of the guns. |

| Posted 4 months ago Basically as a class 1 I am given statwide jurisdiction like the Highway patrol. We are all commisioned by the govenor, and the Cheif of the South Carolina Law Enforcement Division. Class 2 constable is a retired class1, and class 3 is like a reserve with limited duties or they have to ride with a class 1 or another agency ( volunteer).See you around. What process do you go through to become a constable and what are your primary duties? It's interesting what LEOs are called from state to state, it's difficult though, sometimes figuring how each equates to other states. Pain is weakness leaving the body. | Posted 4 months ago Our constables here are elected officials and their primary responsibility is serving civil papers. Most drive their own private vehicles and regular clothes, a few hardcore constables spring for a uniform and buy and old crown vic and stripe it up. Pain is weakness leaving the body. | Posted 4 months ago Virginia doesn't have Constables, so I'm curious too, how much training do you get? Is it comparable to SC Highway patrol since you rate the two is equal? Do you go thru their academy? I didn't realize Mental Health was handled thru the Highway Patrol? In Va it's a civilian section. Support bacteria. They're the only culture some people have. |

| Posted 4 months ago Welcome, I too am curious. In Texas, all County Deputy Constables have to go through a full police academy, the elected Constable has a time period for them to complete the police academy. |

I have heard that about some states. I think in those states the Constable is more of a difference in titles then in duties. Ours are just paper servers. Pain is weakness leaving the body. Obstacles are what we see when we take our eyes off the goal. |

| Posted 4 months ago We attend the same 9 week academy as all the other LEO in SC . My primary duties ar efor the mental health centers and hospitals. We transport p[atients with charges pending to court doctors appt so on. Class 3 constables have to purchase their own uniforms, and are basically volunteers we get a salary that is main difference. We run to the sound of the guns. |

| Posted 4 months ago I have been through the basic Law certification at the academy. It woul be an additional 9-12 weeks to become a trooper, due to they go into more specialized courtroom, DT, and so on that makes them the top dogs in SC. I only meant we share statewide jurisdiction like them, and SLED. Hope this helps explain it better. Heck I work in this system and it confuses me sometimes. We have to have certified officers to transport, and pick up the (NGRI) Not Guilty by Reason of Insanity patients, and we get every murderer, rapist, and sexual predator for the state of South Carolina for evaluation so it is never boring..
