I am looking to purchase a 1911 that must have a light rail/picatinny rail. I am thinking about the Kimber SIS, but was wondering if anyone had some other good suggestions. I would like to keep the price at 1200.00 or less(give or take a few). Thanks.

Sig GSR.  Mine's natural stainless and it is my favorite pistol.  Comes loaded, Novak night sights included for under a grand.  You won't regret it.

FYI, most 1911s are limited on magazine capacity (usually about 8-rounds), especially in .45 ACP. Mind you there is nothing wrong with a 1911, but there are better pistols out there for personal defense, duty carry, or even for competition. May I ask what the pistol is for before I make a recommendation?

If you're fixed on a 1911 I'd say get a Springfield Operator...however, of the ones mentioned, I would get the Sig GSR over the Kimber...but that's just personal opinion talking. When you get in the 1911 realm, you're comparing apples to apples...one is a gela, one is a fuji...it's a matter of taste and preference.

If you're fixed on .45 ACP (who isn't impressed by that huge brick?!) then why not a glock 21?

You look at the new line of XD(M)s? Holy crap! 16+1 in a .40...match grade barrel (something you would find in say a 1911?), smooooth trigger...damn gun is awesome! My only complaint I had about my XD .45 was the finish...but aparently the XD(M) is supposed to be better (has a Melonite finish).

Currently, they only make one in a .40....but expect one in .45ACP soon!

Para Ordinance makes a single stack, single action in 45 with a light rail.  I was taking to a local gunsmith, He said STI makes a very good 1911.  Few can match the slide to frame as they do.  They have a model called Duty One, it has a rail.  From what I was able to find a while ago STIs pistol are reasonably priced like Kimbers.

To answer the question why not a Glock 21, because when I where gloves it is hard to manipulate the stupid trigger safety.

If it was my money in order of prefrence: STI Duty One, Kimber Gold Combat RL, Kimber TLE RL, Para Ord (unk model name).  I have the Kimber TLE and will never get rid of it.

Edit: I just looked on the STI site and could not find the Duty One and they may charge more than I intially thought

I'd recommend the Para as well...at least the single-stacks...but their customer service has been piss-poor lately. If you have a problem with their pistol, they should fix it, period!

OK, that makes perfect sense.  Everybody should have a 1911...as a second (or third, or...) gun.

While I am not a fan of the single-stack magazine, and I am certainly not a fan of Sig handguns, this is my solution to the 1911 w/ rail problem.  It's the same as my duty weapon and the X200 was a gift from a contractor on a previous trip.

No, not a 1911, but a close enough combo to, perhaps, give you a flashlight idea.  I'm not a 1911 fanatic, so others will have to share their wisdom concerning manufacturers and details of individual models.

In actuality, it lives in the safe at night and I just keep my G27 handy when it comes out of the holster at bed time.  I keep a hand held SF light to go with it.  YMMV.

Thanks for everyones help. After testing some different models and doing some research I think I'm going to go with the Springfield Champion Operater. Thanks again.
