Posted 4 months ago Not sure i would want there to be a "dispatch competition" after all, we're here to be a lifeline! Dont get me wrong..awards and such are great but always remember how great it is to hear your guys/gals go 42 or off duty and just knowing you got them home safe after their shift makes you the best dispatcher EVER!! ~~~In God we trust, All others we run through NCIC ~~~ ~~~'The will of God will never take you where the Grace of God will not protect you.'

Posted 4 months ago Yep there are so true, i have gotten 2 awards for oustanding serv, but i had partners both times and it should be a team award not just giving to one person, i refused the awards, its not fair, i agree but i know whats she talking about, !

Posted 4 months ago I don't know of any such nor would I participate if there were. I believe as other have stated here that it is a team effort. That having been said it is always been nice to be recognized but hopefully again as a group.

Posted 4 months ago We don't have a "competition". But our agency does hand out a Telecommunicator of the year award every year. The award is based on overall performance, attitude, etc... All employees nominate a person to win. The winner gets a plaque and $100 gift card to a business of their choice. For 2008, and for the first time ever, there was no single winner. The entire staff got the award since we started using a new CAD system which we call CRAP. We thought we all deserved an award for having to use it and the administration agreed! LOL

Posted 3 months ago We don't have a competition per se but we always try to do better than our sheriff's department, LOL I know what kind of competition you're talking about and it would be interesting, like dispatcher olympics!! With everyone having different CAD versions and set ups, it would be interesting to see who was the biggest 'fish out of the water' when it came to dispatching. I think a little friendly competition never hurt anyone and hey, we might even learn something and the comraderie would be tottaly advantageous!! September 11, 2001... I will always remember

Posted 3 months ago i know that in arkansas they have where you can nomiate someone for dispatcher of the year, but one of my officers (a former dispatcher and VERY VERY wise man) told me that don't ever think that you know it all or are better then all, because you always have room for improvment, someone might have an easier/better way to do it, you might have all the answers to the calls that youve taken but you might have one call that you don't know and your partner might not be the "best" but might have delt with that situation before, and knows how to handle it. also, advise is free take it or leave it, at least listen and log it in your head you might need it later or you might not, you never know, my idea of the best dispatcher is the one who doesn't think that they are, they are modest and all they care about is heaing the officers say 10-7 10-42, when i hear that i tell them to have a good night, and that way i know they are off duty and are at the house with their family and thats where they belong (my boss at my other job always tells me to take care of her husband (one of my guys) and to let him get home safe, and thats what i do God Made Dispatchers So Policemen Would Have Heroes!
