Posted 4 months ago I will entering the academy soon and I was wondering what the standards were for the physical part of training? Push ups, sit ups, pull ups, the mile. . . . . in other words, how many would I have to do to pass the physical part? You are only young once, but you can stay immature indefinitely. |

| Posted 4 months ago Depends on what your state POST commissions standards are. In Alabama it is complete the obstacle course in 90 seconds, 22 push ups in one minute, 25 sit ups in one minute, run the 1.5 mile run in 15:28. My day begins when yours ends. |

| Posted 4 months ago I dont know what the current Ohio standards are, except that the run is about 12 minutes for a 1.5 mile course. they do it at the end of the academy and if you miss any of the standards, too bad, you're done. we all wonder how many cadets punch the State proctor after they've spent $3k and are told they have nothing to show for it because you were off by 6 seconds on a mile n a half run (happened to one of our COs) 100 Years from now ..... all new people !! |

| Posted 4 months ago In just about any case, I'd prepare to be able to run 2 miles in under 20 minutes, do no less than 25 push-ups easily and 8 - 10 quality pull-ups. According to your profile and pics you are plenty young to be able to work toward these goals very quickly. While my son was working toward maxing out his Marine Corps fitness tests he had a pull-up bar in his home... every time he passed that bar during the day he jumped on and did all he could. They made him quit doing pull-ups when he passed 20 at the test... that's the max they'll score. If you can get close to their standards at the start, you'll have no problem advancing your fitness level through the academy. Check with them, I'll bet they have all of their standards posted somewhere. Best of luck with the academy. I'm sure you'll do fine! |

Oh believe me, i am expecting the unexpected both good and bad, I can easily adapt, and theres nothing I cant overcome and I was born to conquer!!! It means a lot to hear you say that. Every since I have been going to school all I have heard is "are you sure this is what you want to do" "what if you dont make it" "whats your backup plan?" As if Im not smart enough to already have thought these things out! Again, all of you guys support means more to a student than you think You are only young once, but you can stay immature indefinitely. |

| Posted 3 months ago I am applying to two different angencies and have TWO different PT requirements. Numbers and times are different with one having an additional test in their PT. Have push-ups, sit-ups, 1.5 mile run (both have this) and a Flex for one department. What I am doing is the hardest way -- i.e. sit-ups are for one with hands across the chest touching opposite shoulders and the other is standard behind the head -- and the most number of reps, then doubling this number. One wants 12 sit-ups and the other wants 9 both in one minute. I'm pushing for 24 in one minute. The academy have even different standards so I will be adjusting this when I am at the gym tomorrow. The academy also has entrance and exit standards so I will be pushing myself for the number required for the exit PT. This is the only way I have been able to figure I will be able to pass all four tests. Any suggestions are ALWAYS accepted.
