Couldnt tell ya...........have only been on the dispatch side. I will say this, on nights like tonight, at least the guys out in the cruisers can change their scenery!!! In all seriousness though, I love my job, and was asked by the Cheif when we went through our last hiring process, why dont you apply?? My answer to him was because I dispatch it's what I do. I wouldnt trade it for anything

Depends on my mood. Somedays I just don't want to deal with people and when you dispatch all you do is have to listen to them not actually see them. They both have their pros and cons. Either way I love them both.

Patrol is more fun....unless it is 20 below zero and your stuck directing traffic...

Well, i have been on both sides. I started in Dispatch and trasitioned into Patrol after attending the academy. I enjoyed dispatching but by far it is more fun to be out on the streets. You get to meet new people in person vs talking to them on the phone. You get a change of scenery vs 4 cold walls. You get more of an adrenline rush in the field vs behind the mic. -- yes! I can definately say being in the streets is much more exciting. HOWEVER...we all know without our dispatchers we would be far far less effective!!!

I feel bad for the dispatchers because it is stressful and no fun. I second my hubby too, JRG132.

I have never been on patrol & I am currently an admin. assistant for Major at one of our 2 jails. I will say that I feel that working with some of the dispatchers in our office, I feel that I would be best suited being a dispatcher. I took my job responsibilites serious and I got to know my officers to better myself at my job-learning their demeanor and etc. I am a "great support person, go getter & do what it takes to get the job done" I still have officers call me after 1.5 years of leaving the radio room to ask me "when are you coming back?, we need you?" & yes ....MSG115... dispatching isn't for the weak...have long hours...long weeks & the unknown of how your day will turn out. Dispatchers have to be strong & passionate about their officers, citizens and career choice. Kudos to all dispatchers....may God give you the strength, knowledge & courage to do your job great!!!

Dispatching is too tough for me. They have to deal with all those callers, some which are very rude. I have no double tasking skills needed to be a dispatcher. They earn all the money they receive. You could not double the officers pay for me to be a dispatcher. Good job all of you. Keep up the good work.

I love my job too, but to say its not any fun is WRONG! We have some good laughs over people's stupidity. Thank God the public don't know how we ridicule them. LOL. Is it me or do we become jaded and cynical? Yes, we put up with a lot of crap but we wouldn't do it if we didn't love it.

What is more fun for me? Patrol. Only because dispatching scares the living crap out of me. I have no idea how they do it and I am always greatful for them keeping me safe.

I started out in dispatch way back in the day....I worked for two different agencies before I hit the streets...I must say I like this side of the radio....I also will say it is comforting to hear that voice on the other end of the radio checking on you when you are at a bad situation.....Thanks for making sure we are safe......

I am having a blast in patrol, i was dispatching for a while. Call taking is the most stressful. 1 min you are listening to someone shoot themselves the next your taking a call from someone complaining that their neighbors car is with in 10 feet of their driveway and they "WANT AN OFC OUT HERE TO TAKE CARE OF THIS RIGHT NOW" Such an emotional rollercoaster. god bless call takers and dispatchers!

I'm glad someone is honest!! I hear my co-workers whine when I say something funny about a caller. But I think I'm a bit into sadistic humor. Have you seen those lovely "Happy Bunnies"... I own so many magnets. But all in all, I do love my job too. I couldn't imagine doing anything else, well... maybe being an artist but that doesn't pay the bills.

Patrol...I wouldn't be a dispatcher if the sweet lord Jesus came down from Heaven and asked me personally. I appreciate what the ladies and gentlemen on the other side of the radio do. It is something that I could not do.

I would gladly work the dispatch side till an opening within the depatment for the road opens. Same goes for Corrections. I would happly work either side to put my foot in the door and prove myself to the department just for the Chance to get out on the road.

it takes a special person to be a dispatcher, someone who can multi task......they are alot better people than me, patrol is for me, I think its alot funner, but the respect should go for dispatchers, they with the nuts on the phone first, then send us to deal with them

Very nice comments about dispatchers. Thanks, we need all the encouragement we can get! Actually our officers are great.
