West Virginia Pen

Posted 4 months ago A couple of weeks ago my brother, sister-in-law and I spent the night at the WVA Pen. I really didn't feel much there until we went in the "hole". One of the inmates what killed and skinned in there. While sitting and tape recording I felt something touching the back of my head. I thought it was a bat...there were a lot of them. When I asked my brother to look there was nothing there. I wasn't afraid...that is the weird part. You would think that with that history and in that location, I would go running out screaming. My pictures only show a few orbs......most dust I believe. Has anyone else been there? What was your experience? |

| Posted 3 months ago Yes, please keep us posted! I have a few days of vacation soon and I plan on going camping in Harpers Ferry WVA. Where is the coal mine in Beckley? I'd like to go see that myself. |

| Posted 3 months ago My husband's grandfather and uncles used to work in the Beckley coal mine. He might be interested in a vacation if he could go see that. He hasn't been back to WV since he was very, very small. |

| Posted 3 months ago The main attraction is an actual tour that takes visitors below ground, under the supervision of an experienced veteran coal miner. Traveling 1500 feet beneath the hillsides of New River Park, visitors are carried along track, riding authentic "man cars" from the mine entrance, to old working areas of the coal mine and back. Stops throughout the tour explore the history of low-seam coal mining from the hand-loading days into the era of modern mechanization

| Posted 3 months ago I like most people have been to the WVP but this was 15-20 yrs ago and i also spent the night there but not by choice i ended up there with a busted fan belt and nothing was open that i new about and i aslo saw the lights and a few shadows that looked like prisoners. But i just sat there watching them , they were all dressed in old prison uniforms and a long chain at their ankles and headed to the south i think ready for work but i was not really sure. but its something i will never forget be safe always no matter what line of work your in.......tom |

| Posted 3 months ago Tommybear3, Did you take the tour and see the inmates, or was this actually when the prison was in operation? " IF YOU HEAR THE SHOT IT MEANS I MISSED, I'M THE RANGE OFFICER I DON'T MISS"

| Posted 2 months ago SWATSARGE, that is where we got the idea!!! We want to go to the Eastern State pen also. I just got back today from Harper's Ferry. It's a great littel place to get away. I stay at the KOA, it's clean, friendly and quiet!. If you get the chance, go check it out. I've done some ghost hunting there but not enought to suit me. Ed, thanks for the link to Beckley. I'd love to check that out also. Radar240, it's not in operation as a prison anymore. There was a huge riot due to the conditions and was closed in the 1990's. It's an errie place to spend the night I'm glad I was just visiting.....

| Posted 2 months ago Thanks for the update Kathy, I can only imagine what feelings you can get out of a place like that especially in the execution chamber area. " IF YOU HEAR THE SHOT IT MEANS I MISSED, I'M THE RANGE OFFICER I DON'T MISS"

| Posted 2 months ago Not to detract from the West Virginia Pen or Harpers Ferry talk, but I went on my trip to the Beckley mine and it was not what I thought it was going to be. I think that my husband purposely misled me to get me to go because I was so bummed about not being able to go to the PEN. I have checked all of our photos for "orbs", nothing.....so, no "ghostly" activity to report. I did have the HONOR of being on the same coal cars as a load of Marines! That was very exciting, but other than that, it was a tourist trip, nothing of the supernatural to report......sorry. I still want to go to the Pen one day, though! :) |

Had I read this, I would have know what to expect!! (thanks for posting, Ed...!!) lol. One thing I forgot to mention previously, while on the way to the Mine, I went to a bookstore and bought a copy of West Virginia Unsolved Murder Mysteries.....so the long drive around Hawk's Nest and that wasn't a total loss.....we had fun. |

Keep us posted on the Coal Mine. I visted the Beckley one in WV this Summer!
