Body Assessment

Posted 3 months ago I just moved back to Virginia this summer and I joined a new local gym. I had my body assesment (haven't had that done in many, MANY years) and I was shocked. No matter how good you think you look, think again. Time slips by people and boy, oh boy, does it change your body! I now have new goals and I figure that with a lot of hard work I'll live to be 100. This forum is going to be a tremendous help to me as I reshape my body and change my habits. "Courage is endurance for one moment more." |

| Posted 3 months ago Congratulations on a couple of things... first of all the decision to live to be 100!!! My personal goal is 102 but I'm open to a longer run. Of course congratulations also on getting serious about your fitness and how it will play into your daily life NOW... it's not just looking good in your body-shape and condition but also your posture, mental alertness, energy and positive attitude are really strongly improved with fitness. I hope that this group really will become a support mechanism and encouragement to everyone who seeks it here. I'll be glad to give you the atta-boys ("girls" in this case) and positive feedback you need. |

| Posted 3 months ago My trainer beat me up yesterday. That's what it feels like anyway. I hurt ALL over and the aches are worse today. I don't meet with her again until Thursday, so tomorrow I will do some cardio. instead of weight training. Any advice for the aches and pains? Tylenol just isn't helping much at all. She tells me it will get better in time, but right now.... OUCH! "Courage is endurance for one moment more." |

| Posted 3 months ago try ice on anything that feels like a sprain or a muscle strain. A nice hot-tub (whirlpool or spa tub) always relieves a lot of my aches and pains.

| Posted 3 months ago Legion, I think my trainer overdid my training. This is day three (since the last workout) and I still hurt quite a bit. I'm suppose to go back tomorrow evening, but I'm not going to go until some of this pain subsides. I'll use ice, as you suggested. They gym doesn't have a whirlpool. | Posted 3 months ago Always remember, the day a a good workout you feel great. the second day you are sore. The third day is ALWAYS the worst. If you don't get back in the gym and work it out it will always be the worst. You have to get the muscle working. Once you start back up it will only take about 10 minutes and the pain will be gone. A really good workout will leave you a little sore. |

| Posted 3 months ago There is a supplement that is called beta-alanine. It will greatly help reduce soreness too. I usually get it bulk at bulk nutrition. |

| Posted 3 months ago Thank you for all your advice. I'll remember it as I work my body. Who would have thought the years would creep up so silently? "Courage is endurance for one moment more." |

I just had my body assesment done too. I definately have my work cut out for me. Mostly strengthing and toning. I think the only part of me that doesn't need work is my calves, and that is just because I run so much. lol. Good luck with your trainer. I know my decision on getting a trainer was the best decision I could have made. Welcome to the Forum too. :) |

AAHHHHH - the "day three freefalling on the toilet phase" One of my personal favorites. Just keep in mind that the sore parts let you know what you need to work on. Short of injuring something, "overdoing it" is usually beneficial every once in a while. Some guys go until they throw up EVERY TIME. That IS overdoing it, but short of that, I always figure soreness is a good sign from time to time. 100 Years from now ..... all new people !! |

| Posted 3 months ago I hop on the treadmill daily, but I haven't been back to my trainer since I began this thread. It's not so much fear of injury as it is a burning anger that my body couldn't seem to handle what that cutsie little valley girl dished out to me. "Courage is endurance for one moment more." |

| Posted about 1 month ago remember. if you stop going to the gym, eventually you'll have to go through the pain again. when your muscles can handle it go back and try not to hurt yourself. i just started back in the gym and it took me about 4 days to get over the soreness. |

| Posted about 1 month ago I work out four months and then take a week off....when i start back to the gym, my first week, what ever i am working, i start out at 1/3rds of what i would normally do for sets, reps and weights...take for instance chest and shoulder day, first week 2 sets 20 reps of inclined bench and the same for flat bench, decline bench and pec dec...i do that for all the first week workouts My first two weeks all the movements are done with machines and dumbells with light weight...the second week is the same, but with heavier weights....the third week i add an extra set to each excercise... and my forth week, i am up to 4 sets of everything and what ever rep range i want. My third and fourth weeks are done with straight bars and i go heavier on the third week and the fourth week i go the heaviest.....that way it saves you alot of pain and frustration and it really eases you back into working out...and always include cardio atleast four days a week...I hope this helps a little..best of luck |

| Posted about 1 month ago Thank you very much. I'm going to do just what you said and watch myself build in strength. Thank you again. "Courage is endurance for one moment more." |

I'll begin the weights again next week, however, and try to not prove to myself that my body is much younger than it really is. I do realize my own limits, but darn it.....I just know I can handle more than I think I can. LOL
