So called Weight issues.

I am a 30 year old man that is 5’7” and about 207lbs. I have a large build though I am short and try to keep up with Physical Training and I am maintaining my weight. One of my doctors is always on my case to lose weight, I feel that she is not taking into consideration that I am male and that I have a large build and come from family that tends to be large. About three years ago I was about 300 lbs, and now on a good day I am 195lbs. I guess my main concern is I feel great, I can do the job, and I feel good about myself. Yeah, I could lose some more weight. I am healthy no problems. Has any one else experience this scenario with their healthcare provider? If so how do you deal with this?

| Posted 3 months ago Those height and weight charts are so far out of date. I think moby dick was a minnow when they put them out. I have the same problem I am 5 ' 8" and weigh 225 had hydrostatic weight done 10% body fat. Just keep up the great work and just do your job. Be safe |

| Posted 3 months ago Its very frustarting. Like mgkwatso said the stats are too old. The best idea is to go and get your body fat measured. This is the truest measure possible for where you stand. |

| Posted 3 months ago I think we have a consensus! Height/Weight charts are NO GOOD and people tend to get locked into body images that are unrealistic for day to day life. We all fluxuate in weight. What we need to consider is how well our bodies operate - that's the organs, the joints, muscles, energy levels - the works! If you have a heavy-boned and/or broad build, you may well carry a little more weight than other folks your height. If you can't see your belt-buckle while wearing a tucked-in button down shirt - it ain't the bones makin' you heavy! LOL The first rule has got to be "to thine own self be true". Don't assess your weight and fitness by what's convenient and tasty... We're cops (well, most of us are) and we do need to be pretty honest with ourselves about the image we present and our ability to perform at a higher level than the average guy - what the heck, we need to be able to perform better than the BAD guy! I think that's our first real hurdle. If you feel good - you're strong - have good endurance for the long haul and can do a pretty good run from time to time - you're probably OK. But just to be sure make sure to get your heart checked. Make sure your colesterol is OK and for gosh sakes pay attention to your joint and muscle pains if you have them. Stay healthy - serve well - God bless! |
