So people here in this group are persuing degrees. What then? Local, State, Federal LE? Law school? Don't know? Pick up a copy of this book, it can help: http://www.amazon.com/Great-Jobs-Criminal-Justice-Majors/dp/0658010638

Good luck and keep your head on askew.

I am a full-time dispatcher for Kentucky State Police. I am also taking full-time college classes through the University of Louisville. My classes are all online. They offer the last two years of the Justice Administration Bachelor's Degree online for students who already have their Associates in Criminal Justice. I have five classes this semester. I should be studying right now, but I had to take a quick break! Back to the point, though...I can't decide what I want to do with my degree. It will allow me to apply for quite a few opportunities with KSP. I am really interested in becoming a Criminal Intelligence Analyst for KSP, but I'm also interested in being an instructor at our Department of Criminal Justice Training. So, I guess I'll just not put the cart before the horse and get my degree finished before I make definite plans.

Eilene: Interview went well; thanks for asking. They made the offer (pending BI and poly), which I of course humbly accepted. Made the wifey cry. But I am still going to line up a few options, so I am not painted into a corner. Just finished reading the chapter for our class on bin Laden; will get to writing after a quick dip in hottub and 6 pack of Yuengers.
Whats going on in your neck of the woods?

Mindi: if you have a heavy interest in Intelligence Analyst in CJ, are you going to need an emphasis on stats classes? Do you prefer online classes? Its good for self time mangement, but I hate not having that immediate feedback in a damn good debate like in a classroom. How much longer do you have?

I am a full time deputy with Apache County, Arizona. I recently completed my Bachelors Degree with Ottawa University. It was a really good program and highly recommend it to anyone looking to pursue thier Bachelors Degree. Now I am currently waiting for my Masters Degree to start in December. If everything goes right, I will be done in about 18 months.

I am currently taking classes through Anthem University for an Associates in Criminal Justice and hope that when I am finished that I can get a job either at the county or city levels. Unfortunately their is a major porblem here in Michigan for anyone going into law enforcement, to many departments have been cutting back and not enough new postitions have opened up.

I am doing a double major of Fire Science and Criminal Justice at Columbia Southern University online. Criminal Justice doesnt really do much for you besides LE so i decided my second love should also be a major so that way when i retire i have something else to pursue.

I prefer online classes because of their convenience. Most of my associate degree level classes were on campus at the local community college, but I hated having to give up some of my precious sleep time to go to them. It kept me stressed out a lot. I am willing to give up the classroom debates in exchange for the ability to view a Power Point Presentation lecture at 4a.m. when I get home from work. :)

well, I guess I have been the rude one and not said anything so far. oops........ sorry, I have my BS deg. in Psychology and working on my MSCJ with a concentration in criminal behavior. So basically, I can work as a crime scene Investigator, criminal profiling and because of the psych. degree serve as an expert witness in court on behalf of LE. I take classes on line at a University in Ohio. :) I'm too old for the FBI, that would have been cool though.

somebody mentioned statistics, blah, have it right now. eeeekkkkkkkkkkk

I have a Bachelor's in Law Enforcement. A little different than Criminal Justice. Learned strictly LE issues. Since I am in LE, I guess that made sense. I plan on getting my Master's in Leadership or education. The LE and Crim Just. classes seem to prepare you only for LE careers (in one way or another.) Many professors and chiefs have told me, unless you want to be a cop, stay away from LE and Crim Just. Can't do much else with it.

Actually, I am going for my BA in Criminal Justice and plan on doing my Masters in Forensic Psychology or Public Administration not sure which yet, but I think my CJ program even though it was "fast track" was well rounded and much more than just LE courses. I had my chance at "copdom" when I was 20 1/2 and my mother decided she didn't want a dead daughter so much for my career in law enforcement (she had political ties therefore no appointment to the academy). I've done my ride a longs, and I've done some things I've been told were really stupid and dangerous but they taught me a lot and I had a good time doing them. By the way, Welcome to the group :-) and feel free to say anything you like even though Scott has very thin skin and no hair (he started this group) I started the other one.

Negatory, Ghostrider. Mostly require Bachelor's or military minimum, depending on what you're getting into. Check out the follwoing jobs and what they require:

www.fbi.gov - if you're gonna be a bear, might as well be a grizzly
www.doj.gov - dept of justice, oversees all federal LE agencies
www.usajobs.com - all gubbmint jobs, all across the US

Good luck with the studies, let us know any questions or ideas. I'd contribute to a brainstorm, but mostly I just have a slight drizzle to give.....

Doc's track was, as Charles Barkley would say, "Hulurryus." Coulda used some tunrtables n banjos.

Philo bites, 2 weeks to go. I am looking at what's bare minimum for me to pass or at least earn the 1 credit hour I need to break that 120 hump to graduate. Mortimer Adler is an ass, Greeks are long winded, and St. Augustine is boring. Hope your 2 classes are interesting and intellectually engaging.

I would give the kid a hug if I could catch her. Lil' whippersnapper is EVERYWHERE at once.
