Advil, stretching and make an Ice roller by filling a coke bottle with water and freeze it and roll it up and down your shins, the ice helps relieve the swelling. Also stretch very well before running escpeically the calves.

All that plus REST REST REST

When you are ready for a come back you need to find a good pair of shoes. Bad or aged shoes are the biggest cause of shin splints

Hey cody,

If you do decide to get a new pair of running shoes (which would be the main cause of shin splints), you might want to check out stores that specialize in running.  I'm not for sure where you are from, but in Indianapolis, there are stores like Running Company that have you run on a tredmill while video taping it, they can help determine what shoes would be best for you.  They don't knock up the prices of the shoes either.  Maybe you can find a store close by you that is similiar to the Running Company.
