I have heard of some departments that let the officers carry what they want, does yours?

I love each day like its my last! Why do we are have to be so serious?

They started issuing about three years ago.  Some were not to happy about it but most have come around.

All weapons and uniforms are issued by our department. As pointed out before, departmental and county liability plays a big part in that decision.

I work for two departments. One issues, one doesn't.  The one that doesn't is kinda picky, though. They have to inspect and approve whatever you carry, which is good. Liability and all.

I work for two employers.. 1 dept full time and another on a per-deim basis... my full time issues the weapon but the part time does not set a guide line for a glock 22 or 23

Purchase our own from an approved list.  The list consists of Glock Model 22 or 23 for uniform carry and 27s for plain clothes.

Deffinately issued. Feds would not want us making our own informed decision eh? H&K P2000 (USP) .40. The LEM trigger is somethin special to get used to, but all in all I love it.

LMAO- oh, sorry...you were serious-

Hell no they do not- we even have to pay for all our uniforms and gear...and they give you a list of what they will allow you to carry- S&W-Glock, etc. and even the ammo type that you can and can not carry.

We're issued a Sig 229. Any off duty or back up weapon is not issued. I carry a Sig 239 off duty.

We provide our own weapon out of our pocket -- which is fine with me as I carry a wheel-gun by choice.

It wasn't until I went full-time that they even provided the ammo to qualify with.  (Qualify, but not practice.)

My department gives you the option of carrying your own firearm if you so choose. If you decide on carrying your own it must be approved by the Chief and you must qualify with it as you would anything else.

Our department issue firearm is a Smith & Wesson Sigma in .40 S&W (JUNK). Only one guy in my department carries the department firearm.

I carry my Glock model 21 for duty.

Our office issues our firearm.  You can carry your own firearm off duty but you must also qualify with it on the range and purchase your own ammo to qualify with.

Our department issues Sig P226 .40's to all Full Time Officers.

Part timers have to buy their own and can use anything from a .38, to a .45.

Reserves which is what I am can carry the same as the Part Timers and all ammo is supplied.

Department issued IMI Desert Eagle (Jericho), but allow personal weapons of 9mm, 40 S&W , and .45 after qualification, EXCLUDING all Glocks.  Also issue Mossberg Persuader and M-16.
