I recently had my 52 birthday.  My family always frets over what to get for me and they say I'm hard to shop for... So this year I dropped some hints along the way.  Back in the spring of 08 I attended a seminar in which the speaker used a wierd balancing board as an object lesson in his address.  This thing was called a Bongo Board.  Ever hear of it?  Well, neither had I.

Basically it's a skate board that tilts upward on both ends but it doesn't have any wheels under it.  There is, however a single barrel-shaped roller that goes under there.  It rolls up and down the length of the board.  It's on some kind of a track so it can't travel right off the end of the board and cause you to fall and bust your back-side.

The trick is to learn to stand on this thing so that neither end touches the ground for several minutes at a time.  Let me tell you it is indeed a challenge!  You can feel the muscles work from your toes to your armpits!  Everything that helps you to stand and balance comes into play in a very magnified way.  Once you learn the basic stance, you can progress on to tricks from there.  I'm still gaining confidence to get past two minutes on the basic stance.  I'm adding a few martial arts hand and upper body movements in just to keep it interesting.  In another week or so I'll move on to the first of the "other" tricks but for now I'm having a ball doing this balancing act and toning up my legs, butt, lower back, pelvic girdle, abs and obliques!

By the way, this toy is NOT cheap... it's about $90 bucks but if you can get someone to give you one for birthday or Christmas it doesn't hardly impact your budget at all!

Have a great day and stay fit!

I've heard of them, but seldomly seen. It seems like it would be a pretty intense core workout

I'm going to have to try one of those!  Interesting concept!

That sounds like a fun but challenging gadget.  Happy belated birthday.
