Ok I would like any advice from the LEO's on what to do and why this happensed to me. Ok I applied to the local police department and passed the written exam, physical agility test, the background investigation and was contacted and had my board interview time setup and then 3 days later I was contacted again and informed that the board has now declined to interview me. I haven't recieved any reason why they have declined. Should I reapply in February without knowing the reason they declined? I was wondering because without knowing I cannot correct the reason that may have declined to interview me. I thought that in Texas employers were required under the Freedom Act to disclose the reason for not being hired. Am I mistaken about this? I don't want to stir up anything, because I truely want to become a police officer. Also background info on me. I am 38 white female (age limit for this department is max. 42yrs.) I am physically fit and workout 3 times a week and run 3 days a week. I have my associates degree in Business and have my Bachelors in Criminal Justice (Magna Cum Laude) I have only had 4 jobs since age 16  the last 2 jobs are 6 years at present and 11 years at job previously to this one and I have given this employer over 2 years notice of leaving if I am hired by a police department and I'm divorced and my children are already graduated from high school and on their own.  So I don't have small children to consider as a problem for this position or a husband to be against it I meet all the requirements and I also help the local volunteer Fire Department when I can. I am not one to give up and always give everything my all. I thank all of you for your advice and pray all of you make it home to your loved ones for many years to come. God Bless.

I would contact who ever it was that did your background investigation at that department and ask them why. There is also the chance its a budget issue and not you.

Always remember you're unique, just like everyone else.

I contact the background inestigator and he didn't know anything. i also contacted the person who called me and informred me of the decision and he informed me he had no information wrote in my file explaining the reason. I have reapplied for the February entrance exams. So God Willing I will finally make the academy and start living me dream of helping to keep my community a safe place for everyone in it. I feel if I get the chance to help make it safe for one person then I will have succeeded. But I won't stop there I am going to help till the day I die to keep it a good place for everyone to live and raise their families in. Thank you for your advice. God Bless and keep up the good work.

As Signal_4f said, it may have been budgetary or administrative, they mave have gotten someone who is already experienced and certified so they don't have to spend all that money with someone new.  Strictly a business decision.  You might want to contact that agency and try and become involved with things like ride-alongs, community service officer type projects, neighborhood crime watch...  Once you get inside and they get to see you and meet you, you might be able to express your desire to work there and then be able to ask someone inside not why you didn't get hired the first time, but how you can better your chances of getting hired.

You can say everything that you want to do and how much you want to work but actions speak louder than words.  If you act foolish, say foolish things or other things that are less than professional, that will sink you just as quick.  Good luck!!!!

I'm in New England and in many small to medium sized departments they hold exams because they're required too, but often they know who they're going to hire before the exam takes place. As said above, it could be the budget, it could be that they had someone with more experience, or they had someone they already knew they wanted. Don't give up! We've all been there.

There are thousands of agencies in the US reapply and/or give thought to more than one agency, the shotgun approach.  Just my opinion but i would avoid telling employer you are leaving until you have been offered the job and the background completed.  Too  many things can happen and you may unknowingly  be hurting yourself at your current job--I'm sure they would never say anything bad and support you, but i would not broadcast it--like waiting until after the first trimester....Good luck
