Bullet Proof Vest

Posted 2 months ago Hey can any one tell me what is the best vest out there. I have to buy my own the sheriff's does not issue them to auxliary deputies. I don't why we are out there doing the same thing as full time deputies do. So you would think they would. They issue us our duty sidearm and uniforms and duty belts. Thank you |

| Posted 2 months ago In my opinion I believe Second Chance has the best vests. I don't think American Body Armor is a bad choice either. I've worn both brands and they are both lightweight and comfortable. Second Chance is my personal preference though. I believe both brands are being manufactured by the same company now. |

| Posted about 1 month ago Thanks DFrost I know that but it is better to have a vest on than not. At least you have better chance with one on. I hope you still wear yours if not you should. Have a great day and be safe. |

no comment LIFE'S JOURNEY IS NOT TO ARRIVE AT THE GRAVE SAFELY IN A WELL PRESERVED BODY BUT RATHER TO SLIDE IN SIDEWAYS, TOTALLY WORN OUT, SHOUTING "HOLY SHIT....WHAT A RIDE" |

| Posted about 1 month ago Bear: (and I have always supported the Right to Arm Bears), I'd sure think twice about "Second Chance" Body-armor. If you "Google" them, you'll see in their history (click on some of the 'blogs'[??] that their vests had a significant number of failures at one pint in their mid-history. And there is a place on e-bay that sells used vests: sounds crazy, but if you read about the care taken in their offering of used vests, you'll be favorably impressed, I'm sure. And be able to save yourself a cubic buttload (an old Irish measurement) money. Bottom line may be, however, to talk with some Feds - Fibbies, DOAs... when they are issued vests, they get the very best - which is easy to understand, since they're using our tax dollars (but for a good reason). |

| Posted about 1 month ago I like second chance as well. Try searching for one from another officer on www.TheCopSwap.com. Might find a good used one from another Officer. Jon |

| Posted about 1 month ago I have a Second Chance tactical level 4 vest and a level 3A for regular duty. I've street tested the 3A and it saved my life, so I highly recommend it! :) |

| Posted about 1 month ago I think this discussion should be in an leo forum should it not? Especially as there are so many jerks out here using vest to help them commit crimes. It was once said the way to understand men is to understand their basic principles. 1 All men need to feel they are better than at least one other person. 2 Man naturally accumulates objects. 3 Man naturally feels his objects maybe less superior than his neighbors. 4 Men are naturally driven to improve his position in comparison to what he knows about others. |

There is no such company as Second Chance anymore. The name of the company is now Armor Express which is owned by the son of the org. owner.

| Posted about 1 month ago I wear a HAWK level III and although a little bulkier feeling than most, I like the extra coverage it has compared to most. It has a pocket for an additional trauma plate and the carriers are removeable/washable. I'll probably buy another next year when the suggested replacement date comes. |

Actually, with all due respect bigblue, Second Chance is still a manufactured brand name. The company was bought out by Armor Holdings (now BAE Systems) after the Xylon fiasco. BAE also owns American Body Armor (ABA), Safariland, and Protech, along with a dozen or so other brand names you may recognize. But you are correct about the son starting up Armor Express. |

Anybody can surf the internet for reviews on body armor... this is a forum for opinions -I really don't think there's going to be any LEO classified scientific research here. Jerks are going to get their hands on anything they can get... really don't see them as being the super-picky, Best-Value-For-Your-Dollar types. Besides, nobody really knows the effectiveness of THEIR vest until they take rounds in it. I'm OK with the fact I really don't know how good my body armor is! |

| Posted about 1 month ago Hey guys,
Has anyone had any info/experience with DragonSkin body armor? I had a chance to read up on it and it was featured on the Military Channel.

| Posted about 1 month ago I wear the IIIA Safariland Zero G and it seems to be pretty good. My vest carrier wears out on the sides quickly though. I have been rotating two and after 2 years, I have holes in the sides of the carrier. I have to agree with others though, it doesn't really matter what kind of vest you get, just that you have one on. Make sure it is comfortable (as much as it can be) and gives you full coverage on the sides, front and back. |

| Posted about 1 month ago You are right it should be in the leo access only but i have not recieved my access yet still trying to work on that since i don't have a department email. |

| Posted about 1 month ago Hey... just came up with an idea that may save you money (while saving your life). In thge most recent catalog from LA Police Gear (lapolicegear.com), they have "plate-carriers" at about $59.00. Buy one of these, and then purchase the various levels of plates sutiable to your needs: plates, alone, are not terribly expensive. Yeah. I know. Keep my day job! G'luck in your quest!!! |

| Posted about 1 month ago Our department just got our new Second Chance vest in today. Level II. I like them, so much lighter than my old US Armor vest and twice the side protection. I don't know what model it is....but it's a keeper. To the OP, check out Bulletproofme.com They say they sell bullet proof vest in used condition. In fact, I'm thinking about buying a old armor panel they sell for 25 bucks to shoot at. Expensive target, but it would be fun. They have photos of 11 year old vest being shot by handgun/shotgun rounds and not passing through.

| Posted 14 days ago Does anyone know any comparison sites for bullet proof vests etc Currently selling UK body armour as used by the UK police force at: www.safeguardclothing.co.uk which are used, but a1 conditon (is the excess stock they have left over) I have been told that their design is far better and protective than its US counterparts, but the US version is a much cheaper price. Anyone able to get a spec sheet to compare both units? |
