Ever run out of gas?

Posted 2 months ago I was just watching a show about how vision works, and they showed part of a vehicle chase for some reason. It got me wondering - have any of you officers been involved in a chase and had your car run out of gas? Just idle, and weird, curiosity. |

Posted 2 months ago No, but I've come close while working a wreck.... got to the pump with about a gallon to spare. I generally try not to let it get down past a 1/4 tank, but this time that was all I had and it was 22 miles to the scene at 90+mph and then about 3/4 hour on scene with the engine and overheads running.

Posted 2 months ago I had to work so long I had to leave a scene to go refuel. I had worked from 1400 one day until 1500 the next day, it was a crazy night. Pain is weakness leaving the body. Obstacles are what we see when we take our eyes off the goal.

Posted 2 months ago Thanks. It was something that just popped into my head. NO idea why. I assume that it would be both embarassing and hard to live down.

Posted 2 months ago I've never run out but come close to it, we were so backed up with calls and I was the zone rove car and was getting ping ponged all over the town when I finely had to tell dispatch I need fuel. I pulled in to the pumps low fule light flashing and put in 19 gallons of gas on a 20 gallon tank.

Posted 2 months ago I *did* however, do something just as embarassing yesterday.... was working traffic control for a funeral...I was parked on the side of the highway (no paved shoulder) and I didn't want to take a chance on starting a grass fire (grass & weeds were at least 2' tall). Sooooooooo..... shut the car off. But, I didn't shut off the radio, radar or the camera, had the 4-ways on and the rear strobes and directional flasher. When I got back to start the car about an hour later....you guessed it. And of course the radio was too far gone to call out. Fortunately a friendly funeral goer had mercy on a dumb ole deputy with jumper cables and nothing to hook them to.
