Is it racial profiling, or just good attention to the out of norm?

Posted about 1 month ago Here is a true story that happend in one of our PD,s, One of the officers pulled over a Mercedes cariing four teenagers all white in a predominatly minority neighborhood. This neighborhood is known for gangs and drugs, the officer asked the teenagers what they were doing in the neighborhood, they all acted like they were unaware of this neighborhoods problems and that they were just passing through. However upon further questioning it was found out they were from nowhere near the area and had no reason to be passing through, they also admitted they were on there way to buy drugs. So now for the question, would this been deemed profiling racialy because they were a group of white kids in a predominatly minority neighborhood, and could this have created potentially a lawsuit under racial profiling? What if this was a predominatly white area and all the same issues with the neighborhood were the same, drugs and gangs, would you still have made a stop? What grounds would there be to make a stop without any traffic/vehicle violations apparent? |
