Any one a member of a Club (ie New York Paint Horse Club).  Doesn't matter what breed or discipline-Quarter Horse, Arab, Cutting.   What were the numbers (entries) like at your shows this????.  Were they down this year or did they gradually go down as the year progressed and gas went up???

I have noticed a decline in open horse shows, I work in 4-H - decline in those shows as well.  I live in north Idaho - 30 miles from the Canadian border so we are out of the industry as far as a high concentration of shows like in Spokane, WA or Coeur d' Alene, ID.  We used to have an open horse show, training show etc. you could bank on at least 3 local shows a year.  Majority of the 4-H members I work with now have no interest in showing let alone trying to develop skills as a horse person.  It takes a major talk with the parents to drive home the fact that the kids need to spend time in the saddle - HOURS in the saddle and its not just all about going mach 90 around a set of barrels or flopping around like a loaf of bread in the saddle.  (Sorry bout that soapbox)

Major QH show is getting pulled from Spokane and getting moved to Moses Lake.  The reining club that I participate in is located in Pasco, WA which is a 5hr haul for me one way.  Fuel prices sucked horribly this summer, didn't show as much as I wanted but what do you do when you put all your time and effort into show prep, spend the hours making sure your horse is ready to go.
