you had to eat everything on your plate

Posted about 1 month ago I remember we had to eat everything on our plate before we were allowed to leave (starving kids always came into play)! It was especially hard eating the nasty things like LIMA Beans, Peas and LIVER. |

| Posted about 1 month ago I used to wait until everyone else left the table and then feed the peas and junk to my dog! Never ever ignore your gut feelings! |

| Posted about 1 month ago Supper was at 5 pm. you better be there. You did not have to eat whatever was being served. You did have to eat what you took. If you didn't like was was for supper, you either ate it, or waited till the next meal. Beyond fatigue lies compensatory hypertrophy |

| Posted about 1 month ago We idn't have a house dog and throwing it on the floor got you more and then had to clean the floor! We didn't have an option either, you ate what was given to you. Occasionally a brother or sister would help out when no-one was looking! |

| Posted about 1 month ago I remember before Microwaves when you use to boil water on the stove. I use to come home from school and boil water and make my Mug o Lunch ( http://www.inthe70s.com/food/mugalunch0.shtml) and watch cartoons before doing my homework. |

| Posted about 1 month ago I actually had to spend several hours at the table for half a brussel's sprout. I did not and still will not eat one. Finally, dad took pity and sent me to my room. "The best prize that life can offer is to work hard at work worth doing"

| Posted about 1 month ago My ex says they had plates that were on a sort of a foot. If you finished all the food on your plate completely, you could turn it upside down. The foot, being hollow, became a bowl, so you could have dessert. No clean plate, no dessert bowl. Sure wish I could find a set of those plates. :) |

| Posted about 1 month ago My Dad was big into Curry Chicken when my brother and I were kids. I can recall him making us sit at the table for over two hours because we both refused to eat it (Nothing like giving super hot Curry Chicken to a 7 and 5 year old). We never did eat it, but were sent to bed without any other food. My Mom and Dad fought like Hell over that, but Mom made certain that we were not fed "Adult Food" again until we were ready to handle it! "ILLEGITIMI NON CARBORUNDUM" |

| Posted about 1 month ago I remember that. When I was a kid had a nice table that I could hide food in my napkin underneath. Then we got a glass table so that stopped. Now my kid hides her food too I find it lol but it is fun to see the way she tries to hide food. She has no siblings at home to help her and we do not have a dog. No matter how much you love someone they will not always love you back. |

| Posted about 1 month ago Ahhhhh! Old family memories. We had to eat everything on our plate and were often told about "the starving kids in China" Also, we had to ask to be "excused" from the table before getting up. And take our plates to the kitchen sink. I think that was when people were taught "manners"! What ever happened to manners? Like when you hold the door for someone and they don't even acknowledge that you are standing there!!!!!!! And people talk of a lack of respect! Imagine that. Dumb people are scary, and dumb people that think they are smarter than everyone else are even scarier!!-Me

| Posted about 1 month ago If I didn't I got sent to my room and didn't get to eat anything.. Lets just say my dog got tired of brussle sprouts.. lol You gotta take the good with the bad, smile at the sad, love what you have & remember what you had. Learn to forgive but never forget. Learn from your mistakes but never regret. People change and things go wrong but life goes on. |

| Posted about 1 month ago Agreed on the manners they tie directly to respect I feel. If we took it we had to eat it, longest I sat at the table was 3 hours. No dog in the house to feed things to.. so yea down the hatch the cauliflower went. We had to ask to be excused from the table as well, even if we had to sit there for hours. cntymnty says ...

| Posted about 1 month ago I remember those days oh to well! lol My Father put the food on our plates & we had to sit there and eat everything he gave us. I hated peas & carrots & he would make me sit there for hours. My mother felt so bad she would come in & try to convince me to take a big bite & then quickly take a drink to wash them down. I have always been strong minded so my stubborn little self would play the waiting game with him. Yep! Midnight we were still sitting there with ice-cold peas! I'm just amazed when I watch my daughter-in-law making so many different meals for dinner because the seven children all want something different! Humbug! You make dinner maybe with a couple of alternatives but seven different things?! I think not! I never forced my children of 5 to eat anything they didn't like but I did require them to at least try it once. Oh howtimes have changed! I remember when...... |

| Posted about 1 month ago I was born during the depression and I remember having hardly anything on our plates. We ate whatever we could get and left nothing behind. I often think today how well fed and actually obese, most of our so called urban poor folks look to be. Most have cars and TVs and even cell phones. Many times I ate fried corn meal mush. We did not have a refrigerator, had a window box in the winter time which hung outside the kitchen window and in the summer we had an ice box. Sure live like a King today compared to those hard scrabble times. "If any of you sons of bitches take a shot at me, I will come back and kill you all and burn down your town". (Clint Eastwood) |

| Posted about 1 month ago my mom didn't have too much of a problem with it...my grandmother on the other hand.... she used to babysit my cousins and I during summer vacations so we had breakfast and lunch there so if we didn't eat everything on our plates we were nothing but a bunch of little wasteful bastards and bitches .. <-- you have to know my grandmother!!! |

Talk about bringing back memories. My 3 year old son (now 40) came to us while I and my wife were working in the yard and told us he had started a collection. I asked him what he was collecting and he said, "bugs". I asked him if I could see it and he replied, "sure, they're right here", while pounding on BOTH pockets. My wife and I both laughed hysterically until she informed me that I was going to the one who emptied his pockets. What is conservativism?
