Deer gets revenge after Mo. hunter shoots him

SEDALIA, Mo. – A hunter bagged a big buck on the second day of firearms season, but the kill caused him a lot of pain. Randy Goodman, 49, said he thought two well-placed shots with his .270-caliber rifle had killed the buck on Nov. 19. Goodman said the deer looked dead to him, but seconds later the nine-point, 240-pound animal came to life.

The buck rose up, knocked Goodman down and attacked him with his antlers in what the veteran hunter called "15 seconds of hell." The deer ran a short distance and went down, and died after Goodman fired two more shots.

Soon Goodman started feeling dizzy and noticed his vest was soaked in blood.

So he reached his truck and drove to a hospital, where he received seven staples in his scalp and was treated for a slight concussion and bruises.

Started off real good for a Thursday night. Kept busy for a while then it just went dead. Now it's just freakin' cold. How's things out in Montana?

Might as well be the north pole tonight.  Cold and nothing is moving.

Guys like that never have good luck. Every day it's something new. You just have to run away when you see them coming so their cloud of bad luck doesn't get on you.

We had a guy, thought his deer was down for the count. He placed his shotgun across the rack for a photo. The deer got up and took off. Don't know if he went down later or if the guy ever found his shotgun. Always poke them around the eye when you approach them and approach them from the rear. So far I haven't had to worry about checking to see if one is expired.

Now this story points out the usefulness of bayonet lugs.  If he had been using an EEEVil black rifle with a lug, he could have fixed bayonet, and given it a finishing thrust to make sure it was dead.
