I was just wondering how much you change as a person after the academy, once you put on that uniform?

I dont think I changed as a person really. I became a little more confident and mature I think, but I havent morphed into another person. Putting on the uniform..maybe just a little uncomfortable, vests are hot and restrictive lol.

I know that I changed.  The job is what you make of it.  But no matter what in some way or another you will change, either by what you see and hear, or by what you do.  This is a life altering job field!!!!!

You'll change.  The longer your'e on the job.  When you first start things are fresh and new.  So, many new expierences.  The problem will be how you handle them.  You'll see sex assaults, child abuse, deaths, and everything in between.  It's going to occur but you can control it by having a hobby that allows you to release stress from the job.  Friends to talk too.  As officers we tend not to talk about the things bothering us because it shows signs of weakness.  Find away to get it off your chest and you'll be fine.  But change yes you will.

didnt change at all. It really depends on your age and what exactly you were doing before you become a cop. If you came from college or a regular 9-5 type gig, and are younger...maybe it will. If youre coming from working corrections, emt, military, are older, or a combination of all, youre going to be the same person.

The police academy isnt intended to be a life changing time period. There isnt enough pressure or indoctrination involved.

I definitely changed as a person.  I always denied it, but after 4 years in the Public Service, I can see a change in myself.  I was prior Military Police for 9 years and 34 when I went through the Academy.  If I had the opportunity to do it all over again, I would still take the challenge.  Your friends and family will see the change first.  I agree about having a good hobby.  I held a lot in already from the Military days, that only amplified after the Academy and I had to find a relelase.  I found that I had to work harder at exercise, not only because age was creeping up, but it helped(s) me deal with whatever is happening around me.

I expect and I accept that I will be challenged, threatened or attacked. When I am, I will make it impossible for the suspect to be successful.
