Do any of you K9 guys have your dogs trained on Ecstasy? We have some available to us, and I am thinking about training my dog on it. For those of you who do, have you run into any problems with it? I was thinking that because of the different ingredients sometimes used, that this might cause problems, like alerting to prescription pills or something like that. Reply back and give me your opinions.

Ecstasy is the lowest of the trained synthetic odors you will train on. Start with large amounts and dwindle the hides to smaller ones. I am down to using 10 grams in a condom which I hide in the nooks and crannies of vehicles. This is to mimick the normal hiding places of personal use as well as the small time dealer who will have btw 10-20 pills.

I started my dog on 40 grams and did easy placement to get her scent associated, and then kept the training on a progress decline in terms of amount used.

I still have never had a false alert on meds in luggage or vehicles. The chemical components of MDMA have different scent compounds than most meds that you will run into. I have not come across anything less than pure MDMA and large quantity (20,000+ pills) of ecstasy due to my working the borders.

Give yourself at least 15 minutes of sit time for X.

We train our K-9's on Ecstasy and it is very simialiar to Meth. The dogs have no problem with finding it once imprinted on the odor.

JM9040 is right If your dog is trained on meth it is easy to train on MDMA.

We have 2 dogs here at Mountain Home AFB trained on MDMA. When they come from the school at Lackland they are not trained on that odor and we have to protocal them on it. We havent had any problems at all with it. Like Maddawg and JM9040 said, its close to meth and we only have access to about 10 total grams of it and we get the job done with only that. Im sure if I ran accross 20,000 pills my dog would just crap himself. Thats a good Chang of Behavior for me haha.

one experience i was witness to was the fact we had not trained with x but the dog responded to a vehicle on the interstate and the located nothing but a small amount of x pills( no residual marijuana or anything). after doing some q and a with some folks i was advised x has some of the same chemical make as meth which explained to me why the dog hit it. another reason was because we work with residual odors a lot. we do this as most of you know because to get the big finds sometime you need to hit the low odors due to the manner which the articles are packaged and so forth.

I second or third the comments about if the K-9 is trained on Meth, EX should not be a problem. My Dutch Shepherd was never exposed to EX and during inservice training I knew where the EX was and watched his reaction. At first he blew past the location, then on his own he went back to it and became focused on the odor, (Passive Alert K-9) After making sure he stayed "focused" I rewarded him and have not had to follow-up for Re-Certification.

I found that if your dog will detect meth, there is very little problem introducing X. In fact, in our 40 drug dogs, I found no problems at all. We use a standard 30 minute set time anytime we try something new.

There are two ways to get to the top of a standing oak tree; you can climb it or plant an acorn, sit and wait.

I had mine training on MDMA and he never had any issues with it. As long as you build the foundation properly during scent memorization, you'll be good to go.

MDMA spelled out is Methylenedioxymethamphetamine, so the whole Meth thing makes sense.
