Posted 10 months ago I GOT STOPPED THE OTHER NIGHT, THE TROOPER SAID MY WINDOW TINT WAS TOO DARK AND I NEED A STICKER FOR IT. WHAT IS THE STICKER FOR? DOES IT HAVE THE % OF TINT ON IT? |

| Posted 10 months ago Sounds like a question for your state DMV. |

| Posted 10 months ago The sticker shows you meet the state requirement for the amount of tint allowed. Every state is different. Some don't allow it at all. A cop could stop you to let you know your tail-light is out. Meanwhile you just robbed a bank and have a shotgun pointed at his face. He can't see you because your tint is to dark. Bang! It's happened more than once. Not a pretty sight. That's why some states don't allow it - and I agree 100%. |

| Posted 10 months ago NYPDLieutenant said: Makes sense NYPD. I also agree 100% and I live in a state where tinting is a big deal due to the copious amounts of sunshine and heat we experience. It's also very much a driving danger when you can't see a driver and watch the body language of the driver to determine intent. |

| Posted 10 months ago I don't know what the sticker means, but in PA any tint that allows less than 70% of light through the window is deemed illegal. Since we don't know what state you were stopped in, its difficult to give an accurate answer. |

| Posted 10 months ago I hated tinted windows when I was on patrol, there were a couple of times I just pulled everyone out of the car as if I were conducting a felony stop. Those mo frappies don't like that shit but I am not getting shot for anyone. |

| Posted 10 months ago In Nevada you can have 6" very light tint across the top of your windshield, front driver & passenger window also light tint, but the back windows can be fairly dark. I don't know what the percentage is. When you have 100-110 degrees for days it sure makes a difference with the tinting |

| Posted 10 months ago Used to be in Missouri you could not have ANY tint on the front side windows unless you carried a doctor's prescription for it with you in the car. That law disappeared about a dozen years back and it sure changed the way I felt about car stops. I personally like tinted windows when I am driving, but they are a safety issue for us when we pull someone over. Go out today and preach the gospel, and if you must, use words. | Posted 10 months ago HINSOND4 said: I don't know what state in which you are located. But, if in Virginia, then the 'stickers' no longer apply. Stickers to show that the window tint was proper were done away with a good number of years ago when the Virginia Code was changed to say that tint level went by a certain percentage level. Under VA Code 46.2-1052, you may tint your windows, as long as you have two outside rear-view mirrow (one on either side of the car). The front windows, immediately to either side of the driver may be tinted at a level of 50%. Windows behind the driver may be tinted to a level of 35%. The Code also allows for a 7% variance. What this means is that when checking the tint or actually the 'light transmittance' level of the tint with a Tint Meter, the lowest legal level you can have on your front windows in 43% and the windows behind the driver is 28% light transmittance. If you have a Medical Waiver, allowed by the DMV and noted on your Vehicle Registration Card, you can have the darker tint on your front side windows as well. Now, this only applies to 'passenger vehicles' or cars. Trucks, SUVs, Vans (multi-purpose vehicles) are exempt from the Virginia Code in regards to the windows behind the driver. The front side windows must still be in compliance. But any windows behind the driver can be as dark as you want, as long as you have the two outside rear-view mirrors. I have been a cop for 39 years and have written many, many tickets for window tint over the years. Window Tint is one of my pet peeves. The Traffic Courts here recognize me as an expert in window tint. So, what I am telling you is correct, as far as Virginia is concerned. Also, the Virginia tint law applies to any vehicle operated in Virginia. It does not make any matter where they are registered. In fact, I issued a summons to a girl from NC just the other day. Writting tickets is so much fun. |

I look forward when stopped behind someone and can barely see a body head shoulders. I look from th side and sometimes just as bad. The laws for this need to be enforced. I know there are better things to enforce but this one is beyond a huge game here with the local thugs. |

| Posted 10 months ago I lived in New Mexico all my life. I had tint put on my truck. I believe the State of New Mexico allowed 35%. The police never gave me a hard time about it. I moved to Utah in July of 2006. I had to get my truck inspected before i could get it registered in the State of Utah. The inspection place told me I had to take off the tint off of the drivers door and the right front passenger door. He told that 35% is too dark. I took the tint off.

| Posted 10 months ago In Louisiana our statute is:a sun screening device when used in conjunction with automotive safety glazing materials on the front side window, with a light transmission of at least forty percent, all tolerances included, side window behind the driver with a light transmission of at least twenty-five percent, all tolerances included, and rearmost windows with a light transmission of at least twelve percent, all tolerances included. A transparent material, not red or amber in color, affixed to the topmost portion of the windshield not to extend more than five inches down from the top.

| Posted 10 months ago How about the red colored tint? Isn't the red tint more dangerous? I think that it would affect someones eye sight a little. I have seen lots of vehicles with the red tint in them. Most of those vehicles with the red tint are owned my Mexican immigrants.

| Posted 10 months ago WINDOW TINT? I hate it, unless its on my patrol car. hehehe. Colorado only allows 17%(?). But, we get a lot of states like Texas, New Mexico and Arizona and they allow a ridiculous amount of tint, like, can't see through it day or night%". I know its hot and all down there, but its dangerous for LE and the drivers too, I know that their visiblity is cut down at night. |

I've got medium black tint on my POV and it does wonders when its hot out (leather seats tend to hurt after long exposure). I've only been stopped once, but I rolled down all my windows just to make the LEO more comfortable when he approached. Turned out to be an old friend, but he did thank me for the gesture, lol. If I were the one making the stop, I'd be uncomfortable as hell approaching some damned limo tint. |

| Posted 10 months ago i think window tinting is dangerous for all involed. for leos aperson might be reaching for a weapon. a person in the car reaching for i.d, this might be taken the wrong way, and a routine stop could turn more serious. this was a very good question. not being a leo yet, this gives me something to think about. |

| Posted 10 months ago Why does Texas have a state inspection tint law of 20% for front side windows, but a driving tint law is 25%. So you could pass the state inspection of 20%, but pull out on the road and get a ticket for being under 25%. |

| Posted 10 months ago I tinted my windows at one time with a tint dark enough that, night or day you couldn't see in. The biggest problem was it was so dark I had to roll my windows down at night to see to drive. I never got a ticket from it i understand the dangers involved and considering it made it a hazard for me to see to drive I feel bad for the person who would have had to pull me over. Yes I would roll the window down before they approched the car but still. |

| Posted 10 months ago Horses4life said: Had the same problem. Bought a car which had a tint of 15% on it. It drove my wife and I crazy. I had to roll down the windows to use my rear view mirrors every time I backed up. It didn't matter if it was a sunny day, raining, cold as heck, I still had to put the window down just to back up. I traded the car off as soon as possible. It was going to cost me as much to have the tint taken off as it is to put new film on. I'm sure it was going to play heck with my rear window defroster to have it taken off. |
