Posted 5 months ago We got another body about to finish FTO so the Chief wants me on it 3 days a week or so starting in a couple of weeks. Rough stuff. 7-6 daytime and I choose my own hours during the day. Just gotta work enough traffic to justify it. And the best part, I get to comp out during the day and do escorts as long as I get my hours in. Win for me and for the Dept. What do you ride?

Posted 5 months ago we ride 07 HD Road Kings. It was itimidating moving that motor through the course at first but as time went on and confidence builds the things you can do with that motor are incredible.

| Posted 5 months ago Welcome to the wonderful world of the motor officer, the best job on the planet! We are a little unique in that we have our unit as full-time motor officers, but we also have cruisers at our disposal, for icy, really cold days, or monsoon season. We currently ride Road Kings, but are switching to Electra Glides for 2008..and yes, we are "Electra Glide in Blue", for all of those old enough to remember that movie. Motor School was a mother bear! I had one really good crash, in which I remember the lead instructor yelling, "OH

Posted 5 months ago I am new to this site, just taking it out. I guess I found where the motors hand out. "What I like about the job", is doing police work on the bike. I enjoy all the special events we do, it can be a parade to running an escort for the pres. There is some much going on with our unitl each day is different, then just doing enforcement. I am also a traffic homicide investigator and coming off my call week. Had three call outs, so I will be busy neek week.

Posted 4 months ago I would love to be a motorcop someday, but they're sort of uncommon in CO, unless youre in a large city, county with a pro-traffic enforcement sheriff, or a state trooper. I just have so much respect for motorcops, and they're awesome as hell! That is, unless they're behind your vehicle! lol

Posted 3 months ago My PD is still using 01 and 02 Kawasaki 1000, which works well for us. I like the access you have on Motor's through tight areas, green belts, parks, around traffic, crowds, etc. I like that you can be stealth or very visible, and the exposure Motors get with traffic, task forces, funerals, memorials, special events, etc. is great. I'm three years argue free from drivers with the motor. I attended AZDPS motor school and it was a challenge, but the best and where I learned the phrase, ''When the kickstand drops, the bull$#!t stops.''

Posted 2 months ago I have wanted to be a motorcop since I was a little kid. I remember watching the cops in the Gadsden Alabama Christmas parades. I was really impressed with the Harleys and the big black boots! Graduating from motor school was one of my most difficult accomplishments. Man that class gets in your head! I am fortunate to work for an agency that gives me a take home Harley and a take home Impala. When the weather is bad or we are short handed I'm in the car. I really enjoy all the special events ,escorts, etc. The public reaction to a Police Harley is incredible. Its not that unusual to issue a citation to a driver who can't wait to sign the ticket just so they can talk about the bike. Life is good...

Posted 2 months ago I'vewanted to be a motorcop since i was a kid also. The satisfaction I get is when a small child will come up with the parents and ask if he can sit on the bike for a moment. Just the smile it brings to their face when you put them up on the saddle. You hope that by that little gesture they will remember and always respect law enforcement instead of having a negative attitue towards us. The other thing is riding down the beach in the summer time.

Posted 17 days ago I was a motor officer in Atlanta, Georgia and recently moved on to a better job opportunity in another state. I learned to ride a motorcycle at the police department. Before then, I had never even been on one. I have to say that learning to ride a motorcycle the "Police way" was one of the hardest things I had ever done while at the same time the most memorable and rewarding. Now when I'm asked if I miss being on the street I always say " The only thing I miss is riding my motorcycle" . Motor school was so hard but I gained so much confidence and skill from it. I now have a personally owned Victory Jackpot motorcycle and I feel like being a motor officer has made me a better and safer rider all around. On motors, the public always wanted to talk to you. You didn't always deal with criminals during your shift. People, especially kids, loved to see the bikes up close and ask questions about them. I loved the special details we got to do as motormen like dignitary protection and escorts, special events, and having the opportunity to be a part of President Bush's motorcade in 2004. The heat of summer, the rain, the hail, and cold all could really make riding unpleasant at times but all in all I loved every minute of it and wouldn't have traded it for the world!
