Posted 9 months ago It's funny you should mention Gettysburg. I was just changing channels and came across a story about gettysburg, I believe it was the History ch. and they were talking about how there have been alot of ghost ( or whatever you may call them ) and strange happenings in that town. They said more people were killed in 3 days of that war than the total deaths in Vietnam ( don't remember the totals )....I would go with your last idea, get a book..LOL

Posted 9 months ago Rent the movie "Gettysburg" that came out a few years ago. It does a really good job of explaining the battles and the battle ground. It will help you understand where the major engagements occurred. The town is full of history. I recomend the "ghost tours" that are held in the evenings. Good way to pick up a little history, and see a spirit or two. The Amish country of Pennsylvania is in close proximity to Gettysburg, as is President Eishenour's Farm. You will find plenty to do in a week. "You can't lead from behind" Gen'l James Longstreet, CSA

Posted 9 months ago I live 30 minutes south across the Mason Dixon. Gettysburg has a lot of great local eateries, tours, and a 20 minutes drive to York down Rt. 30 if you wanna hit up the Harley factory......

Posted 9 months ago I am a huge history nut and for many years made a yearly pilgrimage to Gettysburg. I have family members that fought and died there with different North Carolina Regiments. Plan to spend several days to truly appreciate the entire battlefield. That is sacred soil even though it ended badly!!!!!! We should have taken that battle if General Stuart had been where he was suposed to have been !!! Scot

Posted 6 months ago We went there last year. We stayed at Gettysburg Campground. The people there was very nice. The campground was very clean and well kept. Had a great time. We took our time and made an all day of it on a self guided tour of the battle field. Another day walking through the town which was very nice. The area is full of history. If you think you made a mistake and find yourself pulling a 32' travel trailer through the middle of town, don't panic like I did. The town roads look narrow. At the stop lights they have place the stop bar on the road back from the intersection so campers can make the turns. I made it with out any problems. Other places of interest is Hersey (about 30 min. away) and Amish country near by.
