As an instructor I find that one key aspect of a good training program are the three "R's" ... recent, relevant, and realistic. Often times, a training program will lack the realistic aspect or does not address the unexpected. When an Officer is faced with something that they think they have trained for, something happens unexpected and they panic. This refers to the saying...train for the unexpected. When you look at your training programs, be sure to test it aginst the three "R's". Use a lot of the current training tools in your programs and look for ways to change things up. Police Link has many groups that you can get great training tips in all aspects of Officer development...take advantage.
